Not receiving comment notification emails

    I am currently working on a blog using WordPress 2.8.5 and a custom theme and do not get email notifications of comments. I have checked all of the appropriate settings boxes and done the standard troubleshooting tests – reverted to default theme, deactivated all plug-ins one by one, and used multiple email accounts. I have tried to use WP-SMTP but I am not sure how to configure it properly. Is it possibly a 2.8.5 problem that can easily be solved through an upgrade?

    Any recommendations are appreciated.
