• I wonder if the authors of this plug-in have any feeling with the little sport called football (soccer). Time and again, in the support forum here and on their ‘ideas’ forum, users have asked for a proper way to display games decided by a penalty shoot-out. It has never been addressed. The only answer is: add it as a custom result and it shows up in the ‘Result’ block. Yes, but that’s not good enough, it should display everywhere the ‘Final Result’ is displayed, without adding to that final result. E.g. 2-2 (and instead of ‘final result’ it should say ‘a.e.t.’ short for after extra time) and then underneath 5-4 ‘pen.’ Or some other way, but in any case making clear that the game was decided by penalties.

Ideally the penalty result would also automatically pick the winner, although when a game ends this way I wouldn’t mind doing that bit manually.

One more thing: when in the League Table two clubs have equal points there’s the possibility to choose the head-to-head result as a ranking factor. Nice. However, for that to work you have to disable all other ranking factors (such as goal difference) because by default head-to-head is only the last factor. Also, the two clubs get the same ranking number, which as far as I know, is never the case in football. There’s also not an easy way to adjust that ranking number, as you can do with any other column in the standings.

In Tournaments (but admittedly, that’s in the Pro version) another thing missing is the possibility to have Home and Away games, a very common set-up in soccer.

So, while overall not a bad plug-in, it’s not good enough for football (soccer).

    Hi @cambofrizz ,

I cant find any support topics for what you are saying above so I will try to solve what I can here ??

For the penalty and extra time results it is actually doable by using extra result fields. Then by minor adjusting the templates you can show those results as you wish. See the following screenshots:
    https://snipboard.io/Ia5h1l.jpg
    https://snipboard.io/ylwDkP.jpg
    https://snipboard.io/okY8C2.jpg
The site is in greek. Extra Time is “Παρ?ταση”, Penalty is “Π?ναλτυ”, Win is “Ν?κη”, Lost is “?ττα” etc..

For the League Tables you should not disable all ranking factors for the H2H feature. The H2H actually uses those ranking factors by comparing Head2Head the teams that have equal points so as to re-arrange the ranking if needed. So if two teams have the same points, they have one win each in the between matches and the only difference is the goal difference, then this will be the key ranking factor.

If two teams have the same ranking number, there is an option in SportsPress->Settings->Teams/Clubs->League Tables where you can choose if the ranking number will increase or not https://snipboard.io/bBHEhu.jpg

    Thanks,
    Savvas

    Hi @savvasha ,
Thanks for your quick reply and clarifications.

To start with the last (the ranking number increase): thanks, I’ve seen that setting but left it unchecked, because only now I understand what it is for. Maybe an idea to make it a bit more clear what the setting does?

What you’re saying about the ranking factors in a H2H tiebreaker is not working, but as that is more appropriate for the support section, I’ve opened a topic there.

And then the penalties: I had already added extra result fields for a penalty shoot-out. But to get them at every instance of the result on the front-end is in my opinion not a “minor adjusting of templates”. Unless I’m overlooking something you have to adjust the code depending on whether it’s a list, a block, or a calendar, further complicated by how you want time and results displayed and also by the way you have selected your teams to be displayed. And in my case another complication is the theme I’m using (The Alchemists), but even with your free Rookie theme it’s not at all easy. And that’s the point: you’re asking users to adjust code for something that is a very regular occurrence in soccer. So, when it is such a ‘minor adjustment’ why don’t you just have that as a standard in the soccer templates with the conditional “if #penalties”?

    Hi @cambofrizz ,

You are right about “penalties”. It should be included in SportsPress, probably in the Tournaments module of the PRO version, because penalty shootout usually occured during tournaments and not during a League game. I will forward this to our development team.

    Thanks for your review,

Only if you then also include options for Home and Away Games which are another common set-up in early stages of a tournament and which then sometimes have to be decided by a penalty shout-out as well to determine which team advances to the next stage.
