Whenever a new user signs up to a subsite all that is in the email is

“Thanks for registering! To complete the activation of your account please click the following link:”

and it show link below this and that’s it.

    No password or user.

The email sending works fine because every other plugin sends out fine, even JMM sends fine.

    It just don’t send password.

    ————————————
Let me add on to this.

I even tried going into the users under the subsite admin and changing the password to a new one in the new user account so I would have a password to use.

Logged out of admin and tried logging into the new subsite user and wp says that the user is not activated.

It should be activated because I opened the email and clicked the activation link.

After getting the not activated error I even went back into the email and clicked again and wp said that this account is already activated.

So basically when I click email link it says I am already activated and when I try to log in it says I am not activated.

    ——————-

Also, what is the best way to have JMM activated?
Through Network activated or just activate it through the subsite?

The only way to activate JMM is network wide.

“Thanks for registering! To complete the activation of your account please click the following link:”

and it show link below this and that’s it.

    No password or user.

Correct, that’s what’s supposed to happen. The link should be for your specific subsite, right?

It’s not supposed to send a password until you activate. That’s how Multisite works, no changes made save to send you to the child site, and not the main site, for activation.

So basically when I click email link it says I am already activated and when I try to log in it says I am not activated.

Are you still logged in as admin when you click the link?

    Thanks Ipstenu for your response.

Forget about the link, the only problem is that it is never sending the password. Before or after the account is activated.

That can’t be what is supposed to happen. If so the user will never be able to log in because they will have no idea what the password for the account is.

So basically when I click email link it says I am already activated and when I try to log in it says I am not activated.

Are you still logged in as admin when you click the link?

Absolutely I am NOT logged in as Admin. I even said that.

Logged out of admin and tried logging into the new subsite user

Anyways, I thought I broke it down pretty good the first time.

I create a new user in the JMM reg fields (that works great) I then get the message on the next page to check my email and click the link to activate the account.
I then go into my email, and in the email there is only two lines.

    1. “Thanks for registering! To complete the activation of your account please click the following link:”

    2. https://activation-link-going-back-to-subsite-to-activate-user.com

That link takes me back to the subsite and tells me “your account has been activated”

    Great! Things are looking good….

I go back to the email account again to check to see if JMM sent another email giving me my password so I can log in to the account I just activated.

Refresh…..Refresh……Refresh…………..Refresh…………………….Refresh……………………………..Errrrrr………..Refresh…………..Well I guess it’s not going to send another email telling me my password of the account I just activated…

Now let me quote the ending of my first message to piece it all together.

That is where I am right now.

I work in support. We ALWAYS ask to be absolutely sure. It’s nothing personal, it’s just what you do becuase it is, hands down, the EASIEST mistake to make.

So here’s your next test, and I’m aware it SOUNDS counterintuitive, but bear with me.

    1. Turn off the plugin.
    2. Try to make a new user account.

Does THAT send you the email?

The goal here is to see if it’s the plugin or not. If you don’t get an email without the plugin, it’s not the plugin.

If you DO get an email, we have to look at the REST of your setup. Did you remember to disable ALL other plugins, network activated and mu-plugins? Did you try a different theme? There’s a reason those are the basic troubleshooting steps.

Ok I think I know now where it’s going wrong.

I deactivated everything and still no password, but the difference between JMM and WP register is that when I register with WP I enter a password during signup and with JMM I do not I just enter user and email.

Is that the norm for JMM?

What is confusing is that after I activate through email link with JMM the page that says “Your account is now active!” in WP, below that it also says

“Your account was activated successfully! You can now log in with the username and password you provided when you signed up.”

The password you provied when you signed up?

When I sign up through JMM I never provide a password.

Should there be a password field during signup with JMM?

Hm. No. See Multisite does not have a password field either.

    https://cl.ly/image/2r2W100x2L2b

That is a screenshot from a 3.7.1 install of Multisite, no plugins installed.

    https://cl.ly/image/0s2r1N0i2P26

That’s what it looks like if you have user accounts AND sites checked.

So … something’s really wrong. Are you going to https://domain.com/wp-signup.php to register without JMM?

    Thread Starter zipperfly

    (@zipperfly)

Then I have no idea what is going on then.
Let me show you what I’m seeing….

    This is through JMM:

This is just the regular site register wp-signup.php

    Is that site running BuddyPress?

If you DO get an email, we have to look at the REST of your setup. Did you remember to disable ALL other plugins, network activated and mu-plugins? Did you try a different theme? There’s a reason those are the basic troubleshooting steps.

Also I can see you didn’t do that :/ The reason we turn off ALL plugins is to see if there’s a conflict, and if you really are using BuddyPress, I would not be surprised to find this is a conflict. I didn’t write it to work with BP since I don’t use it and I’m not comfortable trying to make that code just yet.

    Thread Starter zipperfly

    (@zipperfly)

    Oh, Ok then.

I deactivated BP and guess what, now JMM works fine.

    Go figure.

Well that sucks, can’t use BP with it.

Off to start all over again to find a solution.

Thank you very much Mika for all your time and help.

Yeah sorry ?? BuddyPress totally replaces the login/signup form so a per site registration form is a massive undertaking. It’s on the to-do list, but I need this copious free time myth to sit and master BP.
