• Hi Kat,
Thanks for your efforts here but I’m not sure if posting by emails is ever going to work. (Tried the original coded version also) I get mixed results.

I have my sending email address set-up in the wp blog as an administrator.
My blog is hosted on a Cpanel account and am sending email with Outlook. (not sure if either of those need to be configured). and cant find any options to do that
THe Subject is going in to title OK and they all go to the default category OK. Its also taking my name from the admin user account and publishing that as the user, However Im not getting the body correctly:-

-some forwarded emails are rejected as spam with bounce message.
-if I type out email from scratch and sent a text only email it works.
-If I add an image to that above message (and change subject) it just posts an empty post.
-Forwarded emails with text and images become empty posts
-a Forwarded email with 8 attached images it added them to a gallery but left a big gap between images and none of the text,

I assume these were all html emails except the one i sent just text typed.
Is there a big hole here in the instructions that dummys need to know?
    Regards

    Hi dainty,

It does work for myself and quite a few folks, so I have some confidence we can get it working for you, too. ??

First off – do NOT use the original (built-in) version. For one thing, there is a known bug with it that often results in empty posts, just like what you’re seeing. ONLY use the plugin!

With that out of the way…

some forwarded emails are rejected as spam with bounce message.

If they’re getting bounced back by your email provider, that’s something you need to take up with your provider. You might be able to “whitelist” your email so it never gets bounced as spam.

If I add an image to that above message (and change subject) it just posts an empty post.
Forwarded emails with text and images become empty posts
a Forwarded email with 8 attached images it added them to a gallery but left a big gap between images and none of the text,

I just released version 1.0.4b, which fixes some text processing bugs that might have caused this problem. Can you update the plugin and let me know whether any or all of these messages get through?

    Thanks!

Many Thanks Kat for a prompt response.
I checked to see if old settings for the original product were still there and they are no longer on the “Settings/Writing” page so I assume your plugin changed that.

Downloaded and install the new version but still getting mixed results.

One forwarded email that had multiple images and text sections worked correctly
another that had both an attached and an imbedded email came up blank
the third with documents and pdf files attached came up blank

That’s progress, believe it or not. ??

I haven’t tested with PDF or documents (I assume you mean .doc files?). I will do that. Probably it’s trying to create a thumbnail of them or something silly like that.

What do you mean when you say “another that had both an attached and an imbedded email”? Embedded image? What email client are you using to send your test messages?

    (@dainty)

Using Outlook- by enbedded image I mean in the message and visible as opposed to attached

I will fix it, but two hours is a little bit much to ask. ??

Can you forward some example messages that don’t work to [email protected]?

    Kat,

I just installed this plug in a few hours ago and although it is definitely working better than the WordPress default function, I am also having an issue with the body disappearing.

I have a Group Email list that we use to send emails to all our members. Among all the email address in our group email list, I have added the super secret email address that automatically posts to our WordPress Website.

When I send an email formatted with HTML directly to the super secret email address there is no issue. Your plug in works great. But when I send the email to the Email Group List the body does not post, only the subject. I also tried sending to the Email Group list as a Plain Text email and the body came through without any issue. But the HTML should have worked. I would be happy to send you a couple of emails, one from me without going through the Group List and then I will temporarily add your email address to the group list and send the same email to you through it, with HTML. This should help. They will come from a troop551 email address. I will include in the body the website that you can go look at the posts to see the difference between the two.

Thanks for any help you can give to get this working.

    Kat,

I sent three emails. The first was HTML sent only to my super secret email address and I added your email address to the cc. It posted fine. The body of the email is in the post and it kept html formatting. If you visit the page, you will have to click the continue button to see the whole post and see that the HTML posted correctly.

Before I sent the other emails, I added your email address to the Group List so that you can see how they are formatted after they go through the group list. The second email I sent you was HTML and it went through the Group List. You should have received a copy of the email from the group list (I did not cc you on the email itself). That one posted to the website but only the subject…it is a blank post with no body.

The third email was Text Only and it also went through my Group List (you should have received it in your inbox from the Group List as well). It posted correctly; however, since there is no HTML it does not include the color and size changes in the body.

Thanks for your help in hopefully solving these missing email bodies from our posts.

    Hi nesmith2135,

Thanks for sending those test emails! The full content did post correctly for all four messages (including the HTML formatting) on my test system… so now we need to figure out what’s different about your setup.

What are your mailbox settings (URL, protocol, port and whether SSL is enabled; not your login and password)? What version of WordPress and PHP? Have you updated to the most recent plugin version (should be 1.0.4b)?

Next, can you enable WP_DEBUG and check to see if any errors are displayed (either within WordPress or in your PHP error log)? I can give you more info about how to do that if you’re not sure.
