Not getting comment email notifications

  • I have the setting turned on to get email notifications whenever someone posts a comment. Has been working fine, for 2+ years. In the past few days, though, comments are getting posted with no email notification. Is this a wordpress.com/www.remarpro.com issue, or something with my web hosting service? (I have WP installed on my own domain.)

    Thanks for the advice — but wondering why I would have to use a plug-in — why did it suddenly stop working? I’d like to know if it’s a Wordpres(.com or .org) problem or a problem with my web hosting service. Because I’ve had some other hosting issues lately, and this might push me over the edge to switch to some other web hosting service.

    It’s possible that your host may have disabled PHP’s mail() functionality. This plugin will reconfigure WP to use SMTP instead of mail() .

    Thanks — I’ve submitted a trouble ticket to my hosting service, to ask about the PHP mail() functionality. Appreciate the help! Will set this to resolved if/when I learn for sure it’s not a WP problem.

    They claim mail() functionality works just fine, and are asking for my WP admin userid and password so they can investigate my settings. I think I need a new web hosting service.

    Can you tell me where the mail() functionality is called from? I.e., what php file in my WP installation uses this function?

    The two files that control it are /wp-includes/class-phpmailer.php and /wp-includes/pluggable.php .

    If you’re looking to change the functionality, use the plugin that I mentioned instead.
