I have a multisite (subdirectory) using MultilingualPress — all works well except when creating a post and copying to one language site.

Example: create a post in domain.org/en/ and copy the post to domain.org/es, or domain.org/pl or /pt with the box checked to copy the featured image to the new site. Works.

Samething, except copy to domain.org/fr/ starting with any other site (/en, /es, etc) and the featured images fails to get copied… and the src link is really funky. it’s something like:
    …/files/2/2016/11/201611imagename.jpg

since all relationships function in this respect except when copying to /fr I’m thinking it must be something in the /fr site settings that is causing the issue.

  • Hi there,

    can you reproduce this?

Is it only from somewhere to French?
Is it for each and every single post (and featured image)?

What exactly does not work in the copying part? Is there no image copied at all, or is it copied with that wrong, funky name?

    Thanks,
    Thorsten

I cannot figure out how to reproduce it at will… in this network the problem is copying to the /fr site from any other site. It happens only in this instance.

The image does not seem to be copied. I cannot find it in the files for the target site.

Does this mean that no image at all gets copied and set up correctly, or does this only fail for some images/posts?

Also, by “files for the target site”, do you mean in the media library, or actually on the server (e.g., FTP)?

In case you would like me to have a look at your system, you can send your login data to [email protected]. You may either create a new super admin account for us, or share your credentials, if you like. I’d also need to have access to either the Plugin Editor (if disabled) or better FTP/SSH access to your server.

Apart from that, I am still trying to understand this locally.

    1. fails for all posts and pages being copied to this site. We have several sites by language (en, es, fr, it, pl, pt). The function seems to work when copying (creating a draft) in all other situations: en->es, es->en, en->pt, etc all work; on anysite->fr is broken.

    2. the image file is not copied to the target site: it’s not in the file system and it’s not listed in the media library (WP)

My guess is that the /fr site has some sort of corruption; I tried removing it from the relationships with the other sites and then re-instating it, but that did no good.

Okay, I already resolved the funky naming of copied image files (and corrected this).

I’m not able to reproduce or understand what’s going on with your French site, though.
There are several situations when something was wrong that would lead to the image not being copied over. The thing is that in all of these situation there shouldn’t be anything wrong – or not only this would be strange with your French site.

For example, if the original image is missing the according metadata entry, things go wrong. This cannot be the case or you wouldn’t be able to copy this image to some other site (which you say works).

If you cannot determine the uploads subdirectory for your current site, things go wrong; again, for every site.

If you cannot determine the uploads subdirectory for the French site, you shouldn’t be able to access any media. This is, however, nevertheless the most probable thing that, under specific circumstances, might be off. These circumstances, however, seem specific to your French site.

So, if you want us to have a closer look at this, we’d need access to your WordPress/server.

    Thanks,
    Thorsten
