Can you run the Connectivity Test for your SMTP server and post the results here (just the part that is under “Conclusions”.

    Conclusion:

Port 587 can be used for SMTP to smtp.gmail.com.
Port 443 can be used to send Gmail with the Postman Gmail Extension.
Port 25 is blocked. Contact your host for a solution, such as using their local SMTP server or opening the port.
Port 465 can be used for SMTP to smtp.gmail.com.
A Closed port indicates one or more of these issues:

Your host has placed a firewall between this site and the Internet
Your PHP configuration is preventing outbound connections
Your WordPress configuration is preventing outbound connections

Everything looks fine. Just run the wizard and enter your email address. What was the specific problem you ran into?

    Ok ! I got to step 5

not sure how to obtain this ?

You obtain them from Google. Follow the instructions in the FAQ. Look for “How do I get a Google Client ID? (For Gmail users only!)“.

Thank you very much for following up. this app has tremendous customer support and I greatly appreciate it.

I got to the authentication stage. But was trying looking for an alternative to get around all the google ID’s etc… just trying to eliminate more steps.

    your thoughts…

You could manually configure the plugin for SMTP on port 587 with STARTTLS using Plain authentication. Enter your Google username and password.

If using the wizard, just choose password when it asks you which auth type to use.

‘Password auth’ is not the recommended method, but the choice is yours. Please read https://googleonlinesecurity.blogspot.ca/2014/04/new-security-measures-will-affect-older.html
