Not compatable with recaptcha plugins on WP 3.8

  • Problem:
    After upgrading from WordPress 3.7.1 to 3.8 and CF7 from 3.5.4 to 3.6, the related “Contact Form 7 BWP reCAPTCHA Extension” plugin stops working; instead of showing a reCAPTCHA, it only shows the [recaptcha recaptcha-xxx] shortcode.

    In attempt to fix this, I replaced the BWP extension with “Contact Form 7 reCAPTCHA extension,” and the exact same problem occurs.

    My (temporary) solution:
    When I deactivated + uninstalled CF7 and re-installed CF7 version 3.5.4, the reCAPTCHAs started working again.

    Frequency:
    I’ve had this problem occur on 3 separate WordPress sites.

    I’m guessing this will have to be remedied in the next version of CF7. It’s quite odd to me that two recaptcha extension plugins would both have the same problem, which is what is leading to believe it’s a problem with CF7. I have posted on the other plugins’ boards too though, looking for answers.

  • Yes all Re-Captcha plugins for this no longer work. It does not appear to be the re-captcha plugins but the update to the CF7 Plugin. bThis plugin is maintained so can we get it fixed ASAP?

    I have disabled the captcha plugin and replaced it with the Honeypot.

    Please I require urgent the previous version: Version 3.5.3 | Contact Form 7. The Version 3.6 does not work well with WordPress 3.8 (if a required field is not filled, the user leaves corriguir only if reloads the page, this error did not happen before), the previous version of Contact Form 7: Vrs. 3.5.3 ==> if it works well.

    follow cwendt01 solution, it worked for me.

    1. deactivate CF7 ver 3.6.0
    2. renamed the plugin folder to contact-form-7_old
    3. reinstall ver. 3.5.4 , download link below

    4. all work perfectly after that, even all the forms and settings still intact.

    Thanks for that, Renno31! The site I was able to fix it on only had one form, so no problem, but with some sites I have 3+ forms, so your solution will definitely help me out.

    I hope CF7 can fix this issue soon; it doesn’t make any sense that they wouldn’t support reCAPTCHA plugins anymore!

    ps. I was able to try Renno31’s method on one of my live sites that has 3+ contact forms, and it worked beautifully. Thanks much!

    Hopefully CF7 releases their own fix soon, I hate having outdated plugins on my site. :S

    My problem is a little different but it still involves the captcha not working.

    On various websites that I admin, the captcha image stopped showing and in its place was just the words “Captcha”.

    I noticed this happening only on websites that required an WP update. The other sites that I had already updated to the newest version of WP worked fine. So all I did was update to the newest version and they started working fine.

    A new update came up for WP. Same thing happened again. every time wp has a new update available, the captcha image will not show for some reason.

    Note: on one site I had two different contact forms. One was working fine, the other was not before the update… Strange.

    Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this happening on their sites?

    Thank you to CWendt01 and the clear instructions from renno31! I couldn’t get the reCaptcha to work once the CF7 updated and thought it was some other plugin interfering. Your solution worked perfectly on my WP site with six CF7 forms in place. You two are awesome!

    I opened my site this morning and all of my contact forms are now gone thanks to trying to update the reCaptcha. I did NOT update the ContactForm 7, but left it at the older version. So, did I manage to wipe all of my forms out now? I have no idea where to look in the files. Have tried everything and there are no old forms there.

    Does anyone know if I can upload forms from a backup? And where I would find them if I can?

    *sigh*
