I just gained access to this site, but it doesn’t look like it’s a multi-site. The only security plugin is WordFence, but I deactivated that and your plugin still doesn’t appear.

I do not have access to Appearance > Editor, with or without wordfence activated.

    It’s running on Divi theme.

    Hi,

It sounds like you may have editing disabled, either with define( 'DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT', true ); in your wp-config.php file, or your host may have disabled this functionality altogether, check for that piece in the config file first though, as it’s added now and then by other developers.

    Hey Marius,

I’ve been using your plugin for a couple of years now and it’s really awesome, so many thanks for the time and effort that goes into this!

I recently ran into the same issue when the String Locator link just vanished from the Tools menu and yes indeed I found the define( 'DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT', true ); string in my config file which was added there automatically by the iThemes security plugin.

I’ve experienced this issue already before with Wordfence, so it seems like every security plugin that can lock down the Admin Editor will cause this issue.

So my question is if there’s any way to prevent this? Any kind of exception that could be added into the String Locator plugin settings?

I mean since I know what the issue is, I don’t have a problem flicking true to false in the config file every time I need to use your plugin, but is there any way this could be done using settings?

    Thanks

    Hiya,

Just a heads up, I’ll be closing this topic after this reply, merely because it’s another users topic and it’s 2 months old, so it seems rude of us to keep triggering notifications for them ??

I’m aware of that limitation, and the next version will include a notice if editing is disabled, I’ve just not had a reason to push a new version, and doing it just for that notice seemed a bit excessive.

I could ignore that setting altogether, nothing prevents that, but it seems wrong to ignore core features as this, which is why I’ve not done it. I may consider allowing the search feature still, and just not enabling edits in such cases… that might not be a bad idea to ensure a better experience for all?

Any way, if you’d like to further this discussion I would welcome a new topic, for the above mentioned reason of not bothering previous topic creators ??
