• I’ve been checking every morning and since the upgrade Twitter Tools is not automatically downloading tweets; when I click the button some number of tweets are downloaded. This is in addition to the incredible slow upgrade that I’m seeing. It appears on the face of it that the cron or other time-based code (haven’t looked in the code yet) isn’t working properly. If someone suggests what to check I’ll check and provide the info back here. Thanks!

  • Thanks, electricbob. That sounds more technical than anything else I do with WordPress. I sure hope this plug-in does not start to require that sort of knowledge! As a long-time user of Twitter Tools, it always worked with previous versions without this.

Not sure how to continue troubleshooting it . . .

    Yo,

Having exactly the same problem. Just spotted a mad error log in my root relating the the CRON job falling over.

Looks like there is something inherently wrong either with Twitter Tools or Social.

Does anyone have a solution to this yet?

    Cheers,

    B

Alas not. I gave up in the end and uninstalled – which is a shame as I have been using Twitter Tools for a couple of years.

I now used a combination of “Rotating Tweets” and “WP to Twitter”. Both of these work properly. Not quite the same functionallity but I personally didn’t have time to delve into the code in any more detail to find out what was broken.

Please note, I’m not blaming the author – I’m sure he’s got lots of other stuff to do as well!

And I also lack time right now to dig in – I’ll probably seek alternatives since this isn’t working for me. Like Barry, I’ve been using Twitter Tools for years as my primary backup mechanism; the old version would sometimes write multiple pages a day – not a big deal as I wanted to review comments daily anyway, but the current kit doesn’t fill in what’s missing, so I get holes in the backup. I’ll keep following this thread, if someone thinks they’ve fixed it I’ll perhaps try again. Thanks!

    I don’t know if I have this problem or it’s a design decision…

TwitterTools/Social fetch my tweets correctly manually or automatically when I mark “Create blog posts from tweets”. However, I want my tweets to become a custom post type, and if I check “Create URLs for tweets” I get the same tweet twice: once as a “status” post and once as a custom post.

If I uncheck “create blog posts from tweets” I get them only as a custom post (as desired) but they are not fetched automatically. Any help?

    Thanks

Anyone having this issue can assist us in debugging by installing/activating this plugin we’ve written to get some relevant information regarding your environment and the state of the social lock.

    https://gist.github.com/4127490

Place this file in your plugins directory and activate it. Once it is active you simply log into the admin and then add social_debug=true as a query string parameter.

    Example

    https://yourdomain.com/wp-admin/index.php?social_debug=true

Copy and Paste the resulting text here.

I was running an update of the tweets at this time – it’s taking forever to update my still-over-160000 tweets…. I’ll run this again without that running and post the results.

Looks like the same when I cancel the update:

I’m having the same problem. Been using Twitter Tools for years, but it has stopped working. I had a weekly blog post made of all my Tweets, and I have the latest Tweet shown in my sidebar. Neither have been updating. No new blog posts, and the ‘latest’ Tweet in the sidebar is from 10/5/2012–I’ve Tweeted lots of times since then. I’m on WordPress 3.4.2 on Dreamhost.

I’m going to disable the plugin and find something else.

    @electricbob Thanks for the report

Would you revisit the social settings page and save your settings, and then run the debug again.

This should reset the social_last_lock_time and potentially get you back in a working state.

I stopped the Twitter conversion I had running, saved my settings for Social, then enabled the plugin and ran it again:

    # Social Debug

    Current Time: 2012-11-23 20:27:07

    ## Software Versions

    MySQL: 5.0.92-log
    WordPress: 3.4.2
    PHP: 5.2.17
    Social: 2.6
    WebServer: Apache

    ## Social options

    social_locked: 1
    social_unlocked: Doesn’t Exist
    social_last_lock_time: Doesn’t Exist
    social_semaphore: 1

    Hope that helps! – Bob

Just checking back on this and loaded the debugging plugin:

    # Social Debug

    Current Time: 2012-12-04 20:25:41

    ## Software Versions

    MySQL: 5.5.27
    WordPress: 3.4.2
    PHP: 5.3.15
    Social: 2.6
    WebServer: Apache/2.2.22 (Unix) PHP/5.3.15 with Suhosin-Patch DAV/2 mod_ssl/2.2.22 OpenSSL/0.9.8r mod_perl/2.0.5 Perl/v5.12.4

    ## Social options

    social_locked: 1
    social_unlocked: Doesn’t Exist
    social_last_lock_time: 2012-11-25 03:03:58
    social_semaphore: 1

My workaround has been to just bookmark the download tweets URL:

    index.php?aktt_action=download_account_tweets&acct_id=XXX&social_api_key=XXX

That pulls in the latest tweets…

Is there any movement on this? I just (finally) upgraded, and am having the same problems. If I run it all manually, it works, but nothing works automatically.

Also, the shortcode listed to display tweets: [aktt_tweets account=”phdeviate”], is only displaying a few. I want the option of all of the tweets that twitter tools has archived (over 5000) to appear on the page. I tried using count=, but the number wouldn’t increase no matter what number I chose.

I am still have the issue, and to my knowledge it has not been fixed yet. Ironically, sometimes it does in fact work, while other times it does not. Quite strange.

I really hope it gets fixed, as I really count on this.

I don’t know if my issue is unique, but we run a development server with a copy of a clients blog on it. I’m able to authenticate and add two different twitter accounts and bring in the tweets without any issue. When they log in and try to add their own to the dev site, it doesn’t work. I can’t add it for them, since they won’t give me the password. We had a online meeting and they tried while I was watching. Still not able to download their tweets. Any idea why I can on two separate accounts, but they can’t? They’re doing the exact same thing I am, but with different results.
