• Hi,
I am new to wordpress and have just started my blog.
I wanted to verify my blog https://sanki.in/ with google but unfortunately am not able to do so. I checked this link https://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/ but when I go to the available tools, something about ‘press this’ shows up and nothing else. Not even a clue of webmaster tool verification.
Has this got something to do with my theme Pagelines platform(free version).
Also, it has an option to enter a code for google analytics in the footer.php but the verification failed there too.

yes, you are right. I will mail them for the support.
Thanks for keeping your patience with me. Thanks a lot.

    Hello Bhishma,

    Had same problem.

Google instructions are typical Google garbage.

If you upload HTML file to www. it works. So use FTP to get to your website server and click on www to open folder and upload file. Do not upload to https://www.yourdomainname.com/ as Google say.
I have spent last two days on this and finally decided to ignore what Google say and tried www. folder and it worked immediately.
Putting it in home page does not work either. It apparently has to be put in a Header.php file.

    Cheers,

    Gordon.

there are two ways to verify your website one is to upload html file to your root directory of website other is to add html tag.
for adding html : if you are using WordPress SEO by joost than it will solve your problem just go to dashboard of plugin and there at the end of the page you find Webmaster Tools options just add html tag in front of google.

How do you “add html tag”?

you need to put html tag in your website header tags<head> </head>. you can do it by editing your theme files or if you are using any seo plugin it may have option of adding google meta tag.
I am using wordpress seo which has this option

    Hi, thanks for the support.
I had completely given up on this one, but later I saw the same fields in the Yoast SEO plugin. It was quite smooth with it actually.

yes it is if you access to you server than uploading file is best option for the verification
