    Hello,

My product catalog is clothing and, for example, has items like this:

    ShirtXYZ
    Product Type = Variable

    ShirtXYZ Small
    Product Type = Variation

I am able to export all of my “product type” = “variation” (ShirtXYZ Small in the example) by turning on “Include product variations:” in the general settings for my feed.

That results in a feed that contains all of the variation product types, but none of the variable (Shirt XYZ in the example) product types.

When I turn “Include product variations:” off, the feed is empty. I would expect that it would include all of the “product type” = “variable” (Shirt XYZ but not Shirt XYZ Small) products.

How can I get a feed that contains the variable (parent, ShirtXYZ) products?

    Thanks

  • Hi leapgear,

Thanks for using our plugin and reaching out to us. Unfortunately Google/Facebook is not accepting the adding of ‘mother’ products to your product feed (you call them variable products). That is also why our plugin is not adding them to the product feeds you created.

See more about this topic on our blog post:

    All the best,

Eva- I understand that the focus of your product is on Facebook/Google, but since you can set settings per feed, why not have a switch that enables the exporting of “Mother” products. Example:

Export Variable (Mother) products? (Leave of for Facebook or Google feeds) ON/OFF

Well, there is some logic in Google’s requirements:

Consumers can’t ‘buy’ the mother product itself, just the variations. So why add it to your feed to advertise on?

Also, the mother product itself doesn’t even have a price. It is the variations of that mother product that are priced. So what price ‘belongs’ the mother product and can be put in the feed? Price is just an example, the same goes for other attributes too. Hence, unfortunately it is not as easy as you state and just build in an ON/OFF toggle.

    Best,
    Eva

Right- your logic is sound IF the only thing you use the feed is for feeds that don’t want Mother products. But other feeds do want them- why not allow a switch for those? One prime example is the EBay file exchange, the 3rd largest eCommerce site in the US.

So, since flexibility is part of your advertising, and seems to be a part of your goals with the rules, etc., it would make sense to ENABLE parent/mother feeds when needed (eBay), and turn them off when not (Google). It seems that you have the programming wherewithal to accomplish this quite easily, and it increases the power of your product immensely.

Evidence that this is a wanted item is in your blog; it says you get the question frequently.

I plan on using your product to create CSVs for:
    eBay
    Wish
    Shopify
    Google
    Bing
    Facebook
    Amazon
    Etsy
    Others

Many of those feeds want a parent/mother product. Others don’t. Make it a user choice in the general settings for each feed.

    Thanks,
    Owen
