• Hello,
I just installed WP 3.0 on a godaddy account PHP5. I installed 3 themes and installed the hybrid news theme becuase that is the one I want with a “featured content slider”. I installed WP News Slider it wouldn’t show up on any page. I started installing other plug-ins at random to test them.

Not a single one shows up anywhere! I spent the next few hours installing, uninstalling, deleting and reinstalling about a dozen plug-ins, reading, testing and trying to find a solution. I have not seen anyone anywhere with this particular problem.

It doesn’t matter whether it is video, image, text content or what it is. They all show up in admin and are editable but when it is time to go live they will now show up. Javascript is on in Firefox but they don’t work in chrome or IE either. The files show on my server.

What in the world am I missing?

    Thanks

  • Howdy,

Are you certain that you are properly configuring and using the plugins? I have a few WP 3.0 sites on GD shared Linux accounts and any and all plugins, widgets and themes work just fine.

    Cheers!

As far as I can tell but this is my first WP site. I have extensive experience with PHP content management sites though. The admin panel etc seems pretty straight forward as many I have used before, probably much better than most.

I activated them deactivated them etc. I would think if it was installed within the admin panel and basic instructions followed I would see some sign of the plug in.

I really hate this because I put a lot of consideration into using WP and choosing a theme, in fact I bought hosting specifically designed for WordPress but it is not of any use to me if it won’t even use its own plug-ins. I don’t have days to work on it. If WordPress is that hard to work with I will use something else.

    Thanks

Are you sure you’re following all of the instructions? Some plugins require certain tags to be placed in the theme templates or posts.

Can you list some of the plugins here?

Does this problem happen in the Twenty Ten theme too?

    (@twalker)

Yes in Twenty Ten too. The first plug-in asked me to add code to a template file, I did. Others were just straight forward admin panel installs with extra instructions.

Would anyone be willing to log-in and look? Install any plug-in you want, make a mess I don’t care, I can reinstall the site, it is less than a day old and no real content.

I opened another hosting account to test another WP install but had trouble with MYSQL.

I then found a demo on open source cms and installed and activated plug-ins though the admin cp…still no plug-ins!

I must be missing something. I install>activate>look for any settings the plug-in might need by clicking edit on the plug-ins page or looking under ‘settings” in admin.

What am I missing. Can someone give me a step by step on what they do to get plug-ins to show up?

    Thanks

It looks like the plug ins I want come with extensive directions about editing files on the server, copying files and setting permissions etc etc. Not at all what I expected from a complete package.

Not worth my time. I’m almost 12 hours in and not even near getting one plug in to work. The free blogspot I set up the other took minutes to learn. I would never recommend this for someone who’s time valuable. Maybe this is why I got tired of CMS sites.

On the other hand I would consider paying someone to set it up…if I knew anyone but that too may be a waste of time. I could have coded a decent HTML site by now.

Most plugins are relatively easy to use. Can you tell us which ones you’re trying to use?

Yes, me too ?? I would really like to know which ones are this difficult. I have installed quite a few, and even ones that give you such extensive functionality, for example BuddyPress ( as fully functional social networking platform within WP) installed lickety-split … no hassles whatsoever ??

As an example, perhaps take a look at a site I put up for my oldest daughter using WP 3.0 and a custom theme designed using Artisteer:

    https://www.pitbullhuggers.com

    Plugins used:
    – BuddyPress
    – BuddyPress Template Pack
    – Cimy Header Image Rotator
    – Contact Form 7
    – Cute Profiles
    – Google XML Sitemaps
    – Post videos and photo galleries
    – Ultimate Google Analytics
    – WordPress Video Plugin
    – WP Favicon
    – WP Google Weather

Again, all these installed with no issues whatsoever; the site is hosted on a Go Daddy shared Linux account.

If you think WP is a “bear”, try Drupal or Joomla! ?? … I have installed literally 100’s of Joomla! sites and I have to say, that especially with 3.0, I am totally impressed with WP ??

    Cheers!
