• For a long time I have used Artisteer to develop themes for websites. Though complex it worked well and did what it needs to do. Because it is no longer updated, I needed another solution and decided to go for Elemento because it was advertised to be very easy.

I bought the Pro version, hoping to be able to create themes in a similar way I used to do. Unfortunately Elementor is essentially a page editor. It looks like the theme stuff was added later and is still in its infancy. It took me quite some time to understand this and figure how to combine header, footer and page body into a page. When I treid adding a page with alle posts, It tried using the theme builder, but you cannot just assign the theme to a this type of page, so I ended up buildig a loose single page.

In summary, it works and with some effort you can do what you need to do but for professional sites, I recommend to choose a better solution

Also on the minus side is that you cannot easily transfer a theme to another website. You can export the structure, but not the markup and not the global colors, typography and so on.

The learning curve for Elementor is quite steep, even though there are a fair number of tutorial videio’s. Some of them are a bit outdated, but my major problem is that none of them explains the structure of how Elemento works. It just shows the tricks.

I upgrade my review to four stars, because Elementor announced that they will include staging sites in the license. So, if you have a license for one site for the Pro version, this includes your development site as well. Even though there are some limitations to naming conventions, this is a great addition. I wish more plugin developers follow this example.
