• I am completely new to wordpress and feel pretty lost. I installed wordpress and it worked just fine.

Anyways, I’ve always been using cutenews before. And now, cutenews is getting spammed so I decided to try wordpress instead. I dont get a thing though ?? WordPress, seems to look like a complete site, and i only want the entries i post to appear on my site, like these sites have:

    https://livtyler-online.com/
    https://www.danitykane.nu/

Like in the first sample, you see all entries, and it doesnt mess up the site layout. IT seems like the entries just appear, but nothing else.

When I installed wordpress, I get this: https://img508.imageshack.us/img508/6395/helloha7.jpg
Which is really confusing me :/

I am so lost and I know I cant explain what I want, but I hope someone can understand me.

I simply want it like cutenews, just the entries to appear incorporated into the original site layout . How can I achieve this?

EDIT: I Also read the faqs but I have no idea if my question is answered, since weird expressions and words are used I dont udnerstand, like “feed” and “rss” for example.

  • I simply want it like cutenews
That’s your problem. You should forget what that other script does and learn how WP works.

Nothing on those sites points to a solution as you think it happened = embedding WP’s posts in something else. On the contrary: those sites are made with WP and they have a custome theme. That’s all.

    So it’s not possible doing?

On the contrary: those sites are made with WP and they have a custome theme.

Are you sure? It seems to be so complicated. What if I don’t want my complete site in wordpress. Can I make a theme that looks like the main page, and keep my header.inc, footer.inc etc coding for the rest of the pages, like “about, games, affiliates, info” etc? Does this make any sense?

Yes, it does. I have done it many times.
You take the design of the main site and make a theme from it for the WP installed in a subdir. That’s how most of the existing websites go about it.

OK, so I will try doing this. I just need to read some more about themes.

If I do this, do I have to upload wordpress to the root dir? I’m not sure what you meant, if I should or should not have it in a subdir …

Cause right now I have it in a separate dir, called “wordpress”. Maybe I need to move it to the root instead?

    Now I am getting confused.
What is it exactly what you want?
Seemingly you have an existing website. You either want to use WP for your entire site (=> install in root) or you want WP for something else (=> install in subdir).
Both solution can work, depending on what you want. However, the approach is different.

Let’s say you want to use WP in the “background” just to update the “news” sections of your existing site. It can be done, and you already found info about it (RSS feeeds etc.) But be aware: any internal links of WP (like post title=permalink; the comments links etc.) will take you to the unstyled WP installation!
That’s why I said forget the cutenews thing and learn how this thing works ??

Maybe if you can formulate clearly what is your goal – we could be more specific.

Sorry I know I am confusing, I am having a hard time expressing my thoughts.

So basicly, I do already have a site, with various sections. News/Updates, About, Media, Gallery, Site. Right. And I’m currently using cutenews but as it’s not working correctly, I wanted to ditch it and use wordpress instead. I already have all the other pages set up, coded, the “regular” pages such as About, media, gallery, site etc. The index.php page includes the cutenews articles/entries … So now I want to replace the index.php file that includes the cutenews entries, so that it will include wordpress entries instead.

I do not want to use wordpress for my entire site, but just for my news/entries/updates that will appear on the index.php page. Nowhere else.

Let’s say you want to use WP in the “background” just to update the “news” sections of your existing site.

    Yes, that’s what I want.

It can be done, and you already found info about it (RSS feeeds etc.)

I’ve no idea what RSS feeds is. :/ I have to read more about it, since it seems to be crucial.

This site https://livtyler-online.com seems to be a good example for what I’ve described. I think the site uses wordpress for the updates, but everything else, all other pages, are just regular html/php coded, no wordpress involved.

I hope this makes sense ??

You can think whatever you want about that livtyler site – but you are wrong all the time.

It has WP installed in the root and handling the whole site.
Proof? – https://www.livtyler-online.com/?p=35#comments and https://www.livtyler-online.com/?cat=5 the URLs tell all.
    Also: https://www.livtyler-online.com/wp-content/themes/classic/style.css
So, please, stop arguing about thing that you don’t know!

Yes, of course, the site also has physical files (like multimedia.php > https://livtyler-online.com/multimedia.php) in the same root directory where WP is installed. They have the same design and layout as the WP theme.

Hey, chill, if you actually read my post you can see that I said “I THINK” … I am not arguing, I am merely trying to find samples of what I’d like to achieve.

I think the site uses wordpress for the updates

I think the site uses wordpress for the updates, but everything else, all other pages, are just regular html/php coded, no wordpress involved.

I never said it hadnt wordpress uploaded to the root. I just said that the other pages, such as multimedia, site etc, are regular html/php. And they still seem to be …

Yes, of course, the site also has physical files (like multimedia.php > https://livtyler-online.com/multimedia.php) in the same root directory where WP is installed.

Basicly all pages have such URLs (multimedia.php, filmography.php, movie-lonesome.php etc) and that was why I thought the site didn’t use wordpress for anything other than the updates. Another reason why I thought the site wasnt completely wordpressized was that the site had “header.inc” and “footer.inc” in the root, which wordpress hasnt.
