• Greetings: I’m using WorPress 2.9.1 and I’m trying to verify the site for Norton Safe Web. I have the instructions from Norton, which is to add a small line of text to the <Head> section of the web page. I went to Appearance/ Editor and tried adding the text specified to the header.php section of the site; that didn’t work. I did a search through the WordPress Forums; there are a couple of threads from others who have had the same problems, but no solutions are offered. Someone also tried creating a page; that apparently didn’t work either.

    I don’t have ftp access to the site (i.e. my only access is from within WordPress) so I can’t upload a separate file.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    Mike.

  • It should work if you put it into your header.php file, did you place the text between your <head> tags and click “Update File”? What exactly is the code you’re using?

    Hi There:

    1) I opened the header.php, as per Norton’s instructions:
    “Copy the following meta tag and paste it into your Web site’s home page. It should go in the <head> section, before the first <body> section”

    <meta name=”norton-safeweb-site-verification” content=”hcuqz9nsci-id9tr8unw9yjgl41kecrtxlwitmc49pft623tgzdov6ncu5w0ggbs9c26uz3hayq264tk2ga4le2b9i0tcmlrj176bsj80xudqmv07whdqnj3e9p4pmmo” />

    NB: I tried pasting it on the line below <head> and later I removed that and also tried pasting it on the line above </head> Didn’t matter.

    2) Updated the file, and they then suggest, “Verify that the file is publicly available at: https://wolfnowl.com/nortonsw_1b5202c0-c200-0.html&#8221; When I try that I get a ‘page not found error’.

    Thanks,
    Mike.

    Hmm, could it be something on their end? Does it look exactly the same when you look at the source of your page in the web browser? Have you tried copying the code again from Norton just to make sure you didn’t copy it wrong somehow? Sorry I can’t be of more help to you, that’s really strange.
