Noob question about child theme

Hi,
I am still pretty new and didn’t know about child themes until about 20 minutes ago. When I installed the child theme, all my customization disappeared that I made using “Theme Options.” So I reverted back to the parent them and they returned. Is there a way to retain all the work I did when activating the child theme, or do I have to do it all over again.
