noob – looking for widget that will allow custom ads

I’ve built traffic on a community news site, and would like to start selling ads directly to local merchants. Is anyone aware of a widget or other solution that will allow me to place text and/or images inside boxes that can be easily placed – or moved – from front page to sidebars, etc?
