    Hi colomet,

    When in doubt: Allow indexing.

This is a lot to take in, so grab a cup of tea ??

Through search and user analytics, you can learn whether the search engines think your page is worthy to be ranked well and they’ll tell you the bounce rate of those pages, too. You can eliminate the doubt with this information, but it might require months of accumulating data first.

It’s very helpful to click through on the errors in Google’s Search Console, so it’ll show you more information on these. This will allow you to debug your site.

Now, the sitemap index can lag behind the page index of Google, and vice versa too. Google compares the latest known sitemap state with their latest index. This might lead to conflicts, but they’ll resolve automatically once Google knows more after recrawling your pages. Nevertheless, it’s always best to perform manual inspections on these tags when errors are presented.

The SEO Bar will tell you of the real indexing state (unless other plugins interfere). If it’s indexing state is blue, then you’ve turned on a setting which you probably shouldn’t have. When it’s red, there’s an issue. Otherwise, you should be fine. You can hover over the SEO Bar with your pointer to find out why it determines a state.

so, how that could be possible? how a page can be noindex by default?

and if is a table of contents, like a category page, do you think should be indexed to google?

    regards

Hi, I’ve spent some time looking into what Pressbooks is, and why it isn’t on w.org. From what I gathered, your installation of Pressbooks is in multisite environment (TSF is designed to work in such environment like a charm). This environment seems to be managed by books4languages.com.

I’ve checked other books in this network, for example this book. All books seem to have noindex set for table of contents. Since it also appears that all of them use TSF, it seems that noindex was set globally by multisite administrator. This might be configuration of TSF/Pressbooks or something else. I never used Pressbooks and I don’t really know how books4languages.com works or who manages it. But if you are not administrator of this WordPress multisite network yourself, reach with this question to their support. Link them to this topic, it should help them understand your issue. I wasn’t able to find a way to contact them.

If you do find out what was the issue or why noindex was set to table of contents, please do let us now. Thanks!

the problem looks like is in the SEO framework

If pressbook plugin is activated with the SEO framework (just that two plugins) will not work, but if i deactivate the seo framework, i can index the page

also, pressbooks developers did not block that page https://discourse.pressbooks.org/t/table-of-contents-with-noindex-tag/736

Thanks for the clarification ?? Unfortunately, I don’t currently have time to go through network installation and activation of Pressbook.

Are you network (multisite) administrator of books4languages.com? Or are you only in charge of open.books4languages.com (that is part of the network)?

One thing that might be happening, is that table of contents is treated as an archive. In that case, go to your WordPress Dashboard (if your are network admin, there), and navigate to:

SEO > SEO Settings > Robots Meta Settings > Archiving > NoIndex Robots Settings

There might be a name for archive page made by Pressbook, like so. If it is there, make sure it is unchecked.

Also please revise all TSF settings that are related to noindex. Thanks ??
