Non-taxable item problem

  • I have just a few items which are non-taxable. On the product edit screen, I have entered 0.00 for the taxable amount, and I have checked the “This item is non-taxable” box. However, at checkout, tax is mistakenly being added to the total anyway.

    Any suggestions on how to figure out what is going wrong?

    p.s. – On one attempt at working through a test purchase, the checkout page showed NO tax! This happened after I cleared my browser’s cache, so I thought that I had figured out the problem. Now, it is always showing tax again, even with a cleared cache.

    While I was logged in, I could empty my cart, clear my cache, and whenever I would add a non-taxable item to my cart, it would always add tax anyway.

    Well, I tried using a different browser (Chrome), and the checkout page showed no tax. Then went back to my original browser (Firefox), I logged out, and again added a non-taxable item to my cart, and then it didn’t add tax at checkout.

    Then I logged in again, added a non-taxable item to my cart and proceeded to checkout. Again, tax was added.

    Seems odd…? Anyone have an idea what is going on?
