Non-Mega-Max hover effects affected (even after deactivate/uninstall)

    Hi Tom,

    I hope you can help me, although I am not technically a customer.

    I installed/activated the Mega Max Menu plugin last night to try it out, glanced at the settings, and deactivated it. I made no other change to the site until I noticed that hover effects throughout the site had been affected:

    – On hover, theme’s standard menu bar (starting with “About”) no longer reveals drop-down menus

    – On hover, the title cards (starting with “Broken Creek”) no longer reveal formatted div (typically a black background with text)–instead, hover shows the contents as a simple alt tag.

    What I’ve tried:

    – Reactivating Mega Max Menu, choosing “no CSS output”, refreshing cache/deleting data via the Mega Max Menu tools; deactivating and uninstalling the menu.
    – Purging all caches via WP3 Cache plugin, including the entire CDN (MaxCDN)
    – Altering the cache timeouts (to further force purges)
    – Re-uploading my local site files
    – Ctrl+Refresh many times

    Hi V Hoke,

    The login doesn’t work for me, but I can say, if you disable MMM it will leave no lasting effects – when enabled it overrides the Menu Walker, outputs some CSS and outputs a JavaScript file. When disabled, it can’t do any of these things.

    The only way it might leave some ‘residue’ is if you’re using a caching plugin. I suspect it’s very unlikely but if you are using a caching plugin, try clearing the cache.

    Hi Tom,

    Thank you for this. This is good reassurance.

    I will keep trying to purge my cacheing plugins. i assume the CSS and JS you mention are stored within the MMM plugin directory? And so removed upon uninstallation? If this is not so, please advise where these files are made. It may be useful for me to see exactly what it’s doing.

    Hi V,

    The JS is stored in the plugin directory, the CSS is stored in your DB as a transient. The CSS is enqueued onto the page using a function within the plugin – it’s impossible for that CSS to be output onto your site while the plugin is disabled (unless its cached by a different plugin).

    Hi Tom,

    It turned out to be the User Profiles Made Easy plugin. Bizarre! I hadn’t touched it in days. But lo, when it’s active, the hover effect doesn’t work. When it’s inactive, hover effects are fine
