Noindex tag added by Yoast SEO

    Hi, I have been recently informed that my site wasn’t being indexed correctly, when I started checking my website’s code I found a noindex tag added by yoast.

    I checked all of my configs (yoast and wordpress) and everything was set so that my website would be indexed by search engines, yet google’s search console claimed that most of my URLs had that noindex tag.

    Days after yoast SEO was disabled (and I started using another SEO plugin), the amount of unindexed pages started going down, and previously URLs that google was unable to index due to the tag were being indexed.

    The website owner wants yoast SEO but with this issue I can’t recommend it, help me solve this issue so that I can fulfill my employer’s wish

    Thanks for using Yoast SEO. Can you please activate the plugin on the site so we can troubleshoot the issue you’ve reported?

    You also said, google’s search console claimed that most of my URLs had that noindex tag. Can you share a screenshot of the notification regarding this from Google Search Console? You can use any image-sharing service like https://pasteboard.co/, https://snag.gy/, https://imgur.com/, https://snipboard.io/, or even upload the screenshot to your website. Once you upload it to an image-sharing service, please share the link to the image here.

    if I were to reactivate yoast would I lose my percentage of pages indexed by search engines? I have a verification in progress on google search console, would that be affected as well?

    Well, depending how the plugin is/was configured, they might return. An easier way to not interefere with your live site is to create a staging site (ask you web host if they have this) – and on that copy, switch back to Yoast SEO and check the settings on all post types, terms, archives what is configured to be indexed and what is not. You can configure those settings on basis per post type, etc. under Yoast SEO → Settings.
