The plugin has been working before, but now it is not. No widgets are displayed in the sidebars created in Content Aware Sidebars, while the content are displayed in the standard sidebars.

I am familiar with the sidebar conditions and even set to show everywhere, and with visibility to all users, no content are displayed.

As I said, the plugin has been working, but know, nothing is working?

    Regards
    Carsten

I have a suspicion, that the issue occurs, if you use theme sidebars together with content aware sidebars, in the same area, like the footer, it’s like the contnet sidebars are being corrupted. I haven’t tested it yet though.

Sometimes the text widget, and it’s content is deleted, when saved. Then you must try three or four times saving, before the content is finally saved in the sidebar.

    Am I doing this wrong?

I put the widgets in the custom sidebars I created, and in ‘Target Sidebar’ I choose the theme sidebar with no content? Nothing is displaying.

I also have the choice to choose my own created custom sidebars, which is very confusing, what happens if I choose one of these?

Thank you for reporting this, and apologies for the late response.

It sounds like there might be more problems.
    – When you say “use theme sidebars together with content aware sidebars” do you mean that your theme has a built-in sidebar generator?
    – “in ‘Target Sidebar’ I choose the theme sidebar with no content”, can you show me a screenshot of the sidebar conditions and settings you are using?

If you choose one of your created sidebars as a Target Sidebar, it means that you “nest” the sidebars for maximum control.
E.g. you can have Sidebar A that replaces Main Sidebar on all posts.
You want to show an extra widget on all posts, but only if they contain a specific tag.
So you can create Sidebar B to merge with Sidebar A on that condition.
Nesting sidebars is also very handy when using “NOT” in conditions.

For “Sometimes the text widget, and it’s content is deleted, when saved.” I suspect that you have another plugin that causes this conflict, as Content Aware Sidebars does not change the way widgets are created/updated/deleted in any way.

What I mean is that every theme has different sidebars areas for widgets. I am using Storefront.

Here are the settings I am using which displays no content in sidebars with any of the conditions.

Thank you for the screenshots. In your sidebar conditions (3rd screenshot), delete Static Pages, Pages, and BuddyPress Profiles, and then re-add them in their own group (use the “– Select content type –” dropdown at the bottom).

The problem is that currently the conditions say: Display the sidebar if the current webpage is any Post AND any Page AND it is the Front Page AND it is any BuddyPress Profile Page AND it should contain at least 1 category.

You probably want this: Display the sidebar if the current webpage is any Post containing at least 1 category
    OR
    is any Page
    OR
    is the Front Page
    OR
    is any BuddyPress Profile Page

Storefront is a great theme when it comes to sidebars and widget areas, because any sidebar/widget area will be hidden if it doesn’t have any widgets.
That way you can show/hide different sidebars on different conditions and make sure that pages without a sidebar will take up the full width of the layout.

Hi Joachim, thanks for the answer. I will follow your instructions, even though it does not seem logical to me, at least.

You write that currently the conditions say: Display the sidebar IF the current webpage is…. but hat is not what the sentense on the conditions page says.

It says: ‘Where do you want to show it?’
thats is why you would expect to list all the pages where you want the sidebar displayed, and to use AND between them.

Regarding themes, I swiched back to Vantage by SiteOrigin which has more customization options out of the box. Storefront has some header menu issues on mobile devices, I think. I don’t now how Vantage behave, when it comes to sidebars, but I like the Masterhead sidebar option.

You probably want this: Display the sidebar if the current webpage is any Post containing at least 1 category …..

The set conditions are only to see if the custom sidebars actually kicks in and I expected to see the sidebar content in all the listed places, but nothing shows.

What I finally is aiming for, is to show ads for subscribers level, and hide ads for customers level.

I simply do not understand this

if the current webpage is any Post containing at least 1 category

Why should I choose a category under post, choosing the default All Post/ Blog Page is the same as choosing all categories?

Thank you for your feedback, I will see if I can make it more clear that conditions are using logical AND/OR operators.

I highly recommend taking a look at these pages when setting up conditions:
    https://dev.institute/docs/content-aware-sidebars/getting-started/display-sidebar-advanced/
    https://dev.institute/docs/content-aware-sidebars/sidebar-conditions/

If you want to have a sidebar that is displayed on all pages (i.e. all conditions), but only for logged-in users, you can add a condition like this:
    Static Pages: 404 Page
    Negate Conditions: ON

This means that the sidebar will be displayed on every page except the 404 page. You can then use the Visibility option to select what users should be able to see it.

Why should I choose a category under post, choosing the default All Post/ Blog Page is the same as choosing all categories?

If you want to display a sidebar only on content in a specific category, or on specific category archives, then you should use the category condition. Selecting “All Posts / Blog Page” will not display the sidebar on category archives.

    I hope this helps!
