• There doesn’t seem to be any way at all of entering a less-than sign in a KaTeX formula. For example, [latex]a < b[/latex] makes everything from “[/latex]” on go goofy (it considers all the following text to be part of the formula), and [latex]a \lt b[/latex] gives me a KaTeX parse error.

    Hi,

This seems to be because you are using the text editor. The < symbol is interpreted as HTML, and WordPress for some reason interprets this strangely and screws up the display of the formula.

You can work around this issue by using the visual editor, or when using the text editor replace less than characters with &lt, which is an alternate way of expressing “<.”
