No visible feedback with invalid coupon code
-
Hi,
When adding an invalid coupon code to the cart page there is no visible feedback error to show whether the code entered is successful or unsuccessful.
Can you please advise why this might be?
Thanks

Hi @fatcacky,
Let’s make sure that nothing is conflicting with WooCommerce here. Please follow these steps to determine if there is a theme/plugin conflict:
- Switch your theme to Storefront.
- Disable all plugins except WooCommerce.
- Perform the test to verify if you see an error when entering an incorrect coupon code.
I’d recommend cloning your site to a staging environment and performing the tests described in this guide without modifying your live site or impacting customers. It’s also possible to do it using the free WP Staging plugin. Or you can try installing the Health Check plugin and enabling the Troubleshooting Mode. This will disable all plugins and switch to a standard WordPress theme without affecting your site visitors.
If the issue is fixed after switching to Storefront theme and deactivating all other plugins except WooCommerce, the problem may be with the plugins and/or theme you deactivated. To figure out which plugin is causing the problem, reactivate your plugins one by one, testing after each reactivation until you find the one causing the issue.
If the issue persists despite following the above steps, kindly share the following information:
1. System Status: You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”. Once you’ve done that, paste it here in your response.
2. Fatal Error Log: A copy of any fatal error log found under WooCommerce > System Status > Logs (if available).I hope this helps!
Hi @fatcacky
Thanks for reaching out!
I understand that there are no error messages displayed on your site when adding an invalid coupon code, correct?
I checked your site, added a product to my cart, applied coupon code
test1232
for testing purposes and I can confirm the issue here. Nothing happened after inputting the code as you can see below:I replicated the scenario on my personal site running on the default Storefront theme, however, I am unable to reproduce the issue on my end. You can see that the error message
Coupon "test1232" does not exist!
was displayed after inputting a non-existent coupon code. For us to investigate this further, can you please try to switch to the default Storefront theme and only WooCommerce plugin is enabled, add an invalid coupon code to your cart and see if an error message will be displayed?
If so, then this kind of problem is usually caused by your theme or a third-party plugin present on your site. We can run a conflict test to verify this. I’d recommend cloning your site to a staging environment and performing the tests described on this guide without modifying your live site or impacting customers. Many hosts provide staging facilities, so it’s worth checking in with them. It’s also possible to do it using the free WP Staging plugin.
If this was caused by a third-party plugin present on your site, it would be best to reach out to the developers for further assistance here.
If this did not resolve the issue, please share your System Status Report, that will help us further troubleshoot.
You can find it via
WooCommerce > Status
. SelectGet system report
and thenCopy for support
. Once you’ve done that, you can paste it into your reply here.If you could also provide the fatal error logs (if any) under
WooCommerce > Status > Logs
.You could copy and paste your reply here or paste it via https://gist.github.com/ and send the link here.
Let us know how it goes!
Hi, thanks for your messages.
I can confirm that when switching to StoreFront the coupon codes display messages as they should. This happens without disabling any plugins so it seems to point to the theme. I’ve contacted them to see if they can advise.
The theme is Divi and even with the actual Divi Theme or using a Child Theme it still doesn’t work.
What I’m confused about is that if it is the Divi Theme then why are thousands of people not experiencing the same issue?
Hi @fatcacky ,
Glad to hear that you managed to find the culprit here.
What I’m confused about is that if it is the Divi Theme then why are thousands of people not experiencing the same issue?
That’s a great question!
It’s possible that this has been a reported problem, I’d suggest reaching out to the Divi theme support team for further clarity and further help with this ??
Also, you can try see if any plugins are conflicting with the Divi theme by disabling all plugins except for WooCommerce and checking if the issue is still present.
Kindly note that this forum is dedicated to support related to the WooCommerce core plugin, and help pertaining to third-party themes/plugins is outside our scope of support.
You can reach out to the Divi theme’s support team here.
Hope this points you in the right direction!
Thanks for your reply. I’ve been in contact with Divi and have a call logged with them so hopefully will get a result.
Appreciate that this is a WooCommerce forum but it’s sometimes very difficult to identify where the problem lies with so many variables in play. Thanks for your help in pointing in the right direction.
For anyone reading this thread with a similar issue the answer is to add a Woo Notice module in Divi.
