• I’ve set up a form on my site with required fields, but if these fields aren’t filled in, while the Submit button doesn’t do anything, there are no helpful messages telling the user what actions need to be taken. I’ve seen a demo site for Caldera forms where these messages do appear, so something is going wrong. I did a clean WordPress install on my server (inmotion hosting vps) and didn’t have success there either.

I understand you don’t provide free support, but you should be aware that this is a problem for at least one user.

• This happened to me as well and then a few days later it was resolved without any updates or changes. Not sure why it happened!

Hi cambridge2016.,

You can set a Single Line Text as message and condition it will appear if the required field are empty, eg:

Field One – Empty, Required
Field Two (Single Line Text), hide Label => Please fill out the Field One | Add Conditional Show if Field One is ‘let it blank’

also set the Conditional Fail Processor so when they submit the form without the required field filled out, the form wouldn’t submit

download the processor here:
https://calderawp.com/downloads/conditional-fail-for-caldera-forms/

set it use If Required field* is ‘let it blank’

* Change the Required field term here with your own field, hope this help, Tq

Hey thanks, scraido!

That’s a pretty good workaround.

@scraido – Thanks for all you hard work helping people out. It has not gone unnoticed.

Very much appreciated.

Thanks too David for your hard work of creating this beautiful form plugin w/ your teams, and it’s been my pleasure to help people out ??

and for torontomedics2 and cambridge2016, sorry for typo the right Element Type for field two is Calculation;
Name it Please fill out the Field One
Classes hidden

Add Conditional ‘please_fill’ Show if Field One[field_one] is ‘let it blank’

but for now i think it has been fixed in the new version of Caldera Forms v1.3.5.2, have you update to it?

Thanks again, scraido.

I used “content” element type for field two, which lets me put the message in red.
Please fill out Field One

It’s kind of a reverse validation error message because it shows until there is no longer an error rather than appearing only when the user clicks “submit”.

I am using version 1.3.5.3 and still don’t see the built-in validation error messages.

yeah you right apparently the validation error messages will appear just when people click on submit button if the required field was not filled out, in both v1.3.5.2 and v1.3.5.3

and it’s a nice idea for using the content element instead of calculation,
I’m not thinking over there, haha
