• I just tried to update my site to 3.4. Now when I log in I get a message saying:

    No Update Required

Your WordPress database is already up-to-date!

When I hit the continue button, it takes me directly to my site, which operates fine. However, I cannot get to the dashboard.

I tried clearing my browsers cache and cookies as was suggested in another thread, however this has not had any effect.

  • Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

    – running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php

    Thank you!

Excellent suggestion. The old theme and all plugins might work, just a matter of upgrade order issue:

Switching to twentyeleven, then upgrading the plugins, then back to the original theme, and voilà, admin section is working again.

I don’t know what is wrong, but all I can see is blank page when I try to access my admin panel. I’ve followed steps above, but still doesn’t work…

You have a different problem from the one described in this thread. This thread is relevant to the situation where you get the message:

    No Update Required

Your WordPress database is already up-to-date!

In your case, since you see a blank screen you would need to look at your error logs, or php error logs, and open a new discussion threat specific to what you find.

Followed rename plugin folder advice above, tried to load wedsite, got error message, then changed plugin folder back to orginal name and every thing works find. I think the failed home page load cleared the cache.

Faced with a similar problem, I couldn’t access the dashboard via the admin tool bar or via direct call to wp-admin. Found this thread and was preparing to follow esmi’s suggestion but first….

I tried New->Post in the admin tool bar. I got an edit dialogue in the admin section. From there, I could navigate anywhere in the admin section, including “Dashboard.”

Returning to my WP pages, I could then access the dashboard through the admin tool bar, or via direct request for wp-admin.

This was the only one of a dozen sites I upgraded from 3.4.1 to 3.4.2 that had this issue.
