No topic title in meta data and big sitemap problem
-
Hello,
First of all: I changed Yoast (rolled back from buggy 3.0.7 to 3.2.5) for this plugin, but have some issues to get everything right.
I think it’s not necessary to show the page title as title, in the link ánd in the meta data, as shown here: https://static.afbeeldinguploaden.nl/1601/135866/3Y3MUq5A.png — my question is: how do I remove the page title in the meta data?
Furthermore, I thought it was necessary to change the sitemap in my Google Webmaster Tools. However, I was surprised to see only 710 indexed pages instead of 1951… I still have Yoast (not activated) as one of my WordPress plugins, so maybe that can solve this problem anyhow?
Please help, since this is quite important! ??
Thanks in advance!

Additional entry for the sitemap:
as you can see here –> https://static.afbeeldinguploaden.nl/1601/135867/1AqfA1VQ.pngHi Gebu,
As it’s a generated description, to evade getting penalized for content generation, and to make everything a little more organic, the title and blogname have been added in the description. This has been a deliberate choice to improve the website’s ranking.
For now, you can manually override the descriptions. I will consider a filter in the future to remove it completely (and also the settings related to it). Please be aware that there are over 30 changes planned already in the next update.
When The SEO Framework detects other popular plugins, it mostly disables itself. The sitemap generation can be disabled and replaced (auto-disable) with a dedicated sitemap plugin, like the very popular Google XML Sitemaps.
The sitemap is an important item to get your content indexed quickly. It is however not important to get your content indexed per se. In other words, if a human can’t find your content through the navigation bar, why would a robot?
I hope this clarifies your questions! Feel free to ask follow up questions!
Thanks and have a great weekend ??Quick reply: I have a site with newsupdates every day (about 7-10 newsitems everyday), so for me the sitemap is important I think.
Do you mean that I have to install “Google XML Sitemaps” as plugin?
Hi Gedu,
The sitemap of The SEO Framework is pinged to Google, Yahoo and Bing on each post publish or update (max once per hour by default). This should suffice for most websites.
However, if you wish to have a more seasoned sitemap, be sure to check the mentioned plugin out ?? (or any other dedicated sitemap plugin). It can work alongside The SEO Framework to take care of the sitemap all together.
I hope this helps!
My extensive reaction ??
First of all, many congratulations on this plugin. It’s a new one but very promising and you’re definately building and supporting it the right way!
1) About the page titles in the meta description: I didn’t know that this was a deliberate choice to improve the website ranking. If that’s the case, I have every confidence in you (since I’ve been reading quite a lot posts in this support forum so far). You know what you’re doing, that’s for sure. So you can ignore my question about removing the page title in the meta description.
2) About the sitemap: I have now disabled the Sitemap from The SEO Framework (as you can see here: https://static.afbeeldinguploaden.nl/1601/135874/Fftx82hU.png) – However robots.txt, time stamps and ping are all still checked ? – is that okay? – I installed “Google XML Sitemaps” and get this report: https://static.afbeeldinguploaden.nl/1601/135873/wtA4h2KG.png – in Google Webmaster Tools, they are handling my new Sitemap, but apparently I have to wait for that. Is my sitemap okay like this? This is important for me because I write every day about 7-10 blogposts and want them to show up as fast as possible in the search engines.
3) When I search for my website name “www.xxxxxx.be” (so the ‘xxxxxx’) – I’m first in the results, but I always get very strange page proposals (as you can see here: https://static.afbeeldinguploaden.nl/1601/135870/JM5QVo9Z.png) – my “Partners”-page is for example the least interesting page by far on my website. How can I change this? (Maybe this is because my “Partners”-page is part of my footer?)
4) I came from Yoast and went to SEO Framework with the exact method mentioned below:
“SEO Data Transporter plugin instructions when migrate from Yoast SEO plugin to The SEO Framework:”
— Make a database backup (always).
— Deactivate Yoast SEO plugin.
— Install (but don’t activate yet) The SEO Framework plugin.
— Install and activate SEO Data Transporter plugin.
— In “Tools” admin section select SEO data Transport.
You have 2 drop down menus. You have to:
— Select WordPress SEO in the first one
— Select Genesis in the second one.
— Press on Analyze button.
— Once analyze process is done, press on Convert button.
— You can activate The SEO Framework plugin and deactivate SEO Data Transporter plugin.
That’s all…Now my last question is: how do I know that everything is transferred well? My site seems to work like before, but I don’t know for sure if all my SEO-configurations are stil in tact. You can check my site here: https://goo.gl/WwOV1m – since you’re the expert, maybe you see something wrong quickly that I don’t ?? by the way: I try to make my website as fast as possible, but this is not evident with a newssite with ads like this. I noticed however that disabling Yoast SEO and activating SEO Framework seems to have a positive influence on my website speed. Many many thanks for your ligthweight plugin! To come to an end, I want to delete my disabled Yoast-plugin to have fewer plugins etc, is it safe to do so or do I have to keep it in case something goes wrong with SEO Framework?
Have a very nice weekend and keep up the great work! Soon or late you’ll be rewarded for all this! ??
Hi Gedu,
With extensive reaction, comes extensive reply!
Thanks for putting your trust in me ?? As far as SEO goes, it’s mostly a hit and miss on great content what supplies the demand. Follow the SEO tips (found in the plugin folder and with each update) and the meta shouldn’t matter all that much.
One tip I would like to give you is to more prominently display the football club’s name you’re supporting: So not only in the footer, but also as a title in the sidebar, for example. The only page I’ve found using the club’s name in a title is the “Spelers” page.
Please also be aware that that page has two H1 titles, which is considered OK, sometimes. I believe this is not the case on that page, I’d suggest a H2 header instead on the second one. Styling it as it is currently is of course entirely possible, but that’s your job :D.However robots.txt, time stamps and ping are all still checked ? – is that okay?
The robots.txt will not be altered with the sitemap location line when the sitemap has been disabled within The SEO Framework. The robots.txt sitemap output is a helper for new sites, you shouldn’t worry about this as Google already knows where your sitemap is. Plus you can submit your sitemap through Webmaster Tools if it has yet to be found.
Is my sitemap okay like this?
Absolutely! It can take some time for Google to re-index your sitemap. Google throttles quite a lot. They have to, especially with the millions of websites they crawls daily. Patience is a virtue on this one!
Don’t worry too much about spreading your website’s URL on these forums. If it’s required for support it’s gladly received, it speeds up the process of support as well as the developers know exactly where to look.
“Partners”-page is for example the least interesting page by far on my website. How can I change this?
I have to check up on this and I will inform you as I know more.
I believe Google just pulls together what’s most linked through. Maybe the partners page is more visible through Google because you list your associates, which might be very known in your country (and more searched for).
You could remove the page from index, but that will remove the page and its value completely. I do not recommend doing so, as it’s a social portal as well.(Maybe this is because my “Partners”-page is part of my footer?)
This could very well be true, as it’s therefore also linked to very much (by each page, that is).
Now my last question is: how do I know that everything is transferred well?
Good question! From what I remember (it’s very late, which makes me too lazy to confirm it), the data transporter shows you a message that X posts have been successfully transferred, and also shows if any errors have occurred.
As per request, I checked out all the main pages (from the top nav) and have found no issues whatsoever! ??
…is it safe to do so or do I have to keep it in case something goes wrong with SEO Framework?
Absolutely! This goes for most plugins. The data is retained for each post and page, the global settings are also still stored within the database.
The retained data does not slow down your website. Massing up a few hundred plugins might start to claim a little power when it comes to data, so I wouldn’t worry about this at all.I try to make my website as fast as possible, but this is not evident with a newssite with ads like this.
Well, my main profession is being a server manager. And I think, with the experience I have speeding up WordPress, you could benefit greatly from the following tips:
- Disable minify in W3 Total Cache, it only costs more processing power after the page has already loaded before it’s sent to the user.
- Disable database caching in W3 Total Cache, this should be done by the server. Ask your server provider if they support this. If they don’t, it’s still best to keep it disabled.
- Disable browser caching in W3 Total Cache. This only adds a lot of tags which could even conflict with browsers. Browsers should handle the cache, and they do it very, very well already without the help of any tags.
- Looking at the time The SEO Framework took to generate, I believe your PHP version is on the older side, ask your server provider if they can upgrade it. It’s also much safer and more compatible with the upcoming updates WordPress is progressing onto.
- Improving the time even more, you should consider Opcode caching, this is done at server level. Once again, ask your server provider if they have such services. WordPress can’t manage these kind of caches. Opcode caching, in layman’s terms, pretty much pre-renders the scripts provided by the server and optimizes them for the next load.
- Don’t use plugins you do not need. If a plugin only adds a visual box on your website, consider coding the output manually in HTML.
- More of a security issue, delete plugins you don’t use. Plugins that aren’t active are still accessible through the browser to run. Although not obviously open, hackers could still crawl WordPress websites for exploitable plugins.
Test out the differences, find the culprits and you’ll be amazed: Less is more!
Soon or late you’ll be rewarded for all this! ??
I already am! It’s over-the-top that I can work with so many great people already :).
Once again, I hope this clears things up and I hope you enjoy your weekend ??
Hi Sybre Waaijer,
Again many thanks for this extensive and useful answer.
However, my technical knowledge of WordPress isn’t sufficient to make work of this proposed things. Can you give me a mailaddress to contact you?
Thanks in advance and have a nice weekend!
Hi GeDu,
If you wish to share information with me which you’d rather not openly publish on these forums, please refer to https://theseoframework.com/contact/.
I can’t provide administrative services (warranty/legal reasons). Thanks for understanding!
Hi Sybre,
No problem.
You’ve got mail ??Hi GeDu,
As stated at this support reply, you can manually add your own sitemap URL’s in the next version of The SEO Framework.
As we have been in contact over mail, I do not see any more issues related to this topic, and I am therefore marking it as resolved.
If you are however still in need of any more support related to this topic, feel free to re-open this topic.Your site is much faster now thanks to the upgrade to PHP7 and I hope you’re enjoying the way how it all just works :).
Thanks and have a great day!
Hi Sybre,
All good. You’re just awesome.
No more words.Kind regards
