Hello. I have a few dev sites on GoDaddy cPanel hosting and the thumbnail generation on upload is working as expected. I used the exact same setup on a goDaddy Managed WordPress hosted site and the thumbnails are not auto-generated on upload. I see it says that Ghostscript is not enabled so I contacted GoDaddy about enabling it. They said it is not available for Managed WP hosting, only for cPanel. Is there any workaround or different way to handle this? I can manually generate thumbnails after upload, but my client would never be able to do that (she has enough trouble just uploading the files!) and she uploads a bulletin every week. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the question. Here is an earlier topic with my understanding of the process WordPress uses to generate PDF thumbnails:

Problem and suggestion regarding thumbnails (from pdf) and Ghostscript

I do not know of any alternative to Ghostscript for generating a thumbnail for a PDF document. I regret the news is not better; you should press GoDaddy to provide support for this important WordPress related component.

I am marking this topic resolved because I have answered the question to the best of my ability. I hope you are able to find a solution that works for your application. Thanks for your interest in the plugin.

Thanks David. Yeah, that’s what I figured. I tried GoDaddy again and they said they would “pass my request to the technical team for consideration.” Not holding my breath! In the meantime, I’ll have to rethink the automation process for a few of my clients before going live. I’ll probably have them use posts utilizing the “Page Links To” plugin. Thanks again for your help…
