Hello, I am new to wordpress and just installed its latest version (5.8.2) on xampp in ubuntu environment. I am intended to install woocommerce on it. But when I downloaded the woocommerce zip file and tried to upload, it throws this error:

Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2021/11. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

I tried to get some help from different sites regarding this and found 2 kinds of suggestions

Some said there could be some issue with the permissions of wordpress directories and suggested to set them to 755. I set them
Some suggested to go to setting->media and in the “uploading files” section, set the store uploads in this folder to wp-content/uploads. I tried to do it but there in no option like this in setting->media section in this new version of wordpress (5.8.2).
Also I tried to install a theme directly from wordpress themes section but got this error:

Installation failed: Could not create directory.

Both of these problem could be due to same reason but I couldn’t figure out more. Kindly help me to solve these issue. Thanks in advance.

This is a permission issue. could be solved by setting 755 to your htdocs folder recursively.

    Thanks for your reply.
should the same setting 755 be applied to all sub folders and files as well?
