  • Helga,

I have good news: it’s working and I figured out what was causing the problem.

So I am creating my custom taxonomies using the Types plugin, and when doing so there are various settings that I can check/uncheck. One of them is to ‘show admin column’, and it was not checked, and this was causing the problem.

    See screenshot here: https://imgur.com/C0pzmc4

The reason I didn’t notice this before is because when I would click the ‘quick edit’ option on my post listings, it would expanded to show my taxonomies, and from there it would seem that I could edit and save them (which did not work, as you know). However, now that I have checked the checkbox to ‘show admin column’ , the taxonomies show and i can indeed change and save them from right there in quick edit.

Up until today, I didn’t notice that this particular taxonomy didn’t have it’s own column in the post listing, and i think this is why i was so confused when you wanted me to show you the html for the taxonomy column on the edit page—because there was none! Today I realized I wanted that taxonomy to show like the others with their own column, and hence my discovery.

I’m sure it might still be confusing for people like me who don’t want a column for the taxonomy showing on the edit screen, but so far as i’m concerned i’m very happy that it’s now working as I had hoped.

Thanks so much for all your time and effort for this plugin and the support here . I know we are all so busy and us users are so constantly in need, it’s not easy! ?? ??

Well I’m pumped that it is working and I don’t have to make any changes!

A few versions back I made RB4T respect the show_admin_column parameter and somewhere at the beginning of this thread (or another I don’t know anymore) someone went to Types to get them to add that parameter.

One thing I am confused on… are you saying that the Types taxonomy that did not have show_admin_column enabled was showing up in the quick edit anyway (but not saving)?

Thank you all the kind words. Maintaining plugins definitely takes time, so it is always nice when someone appreciates the work that goes into a plugin that doesn’t make a dime. People like you are the reason plugin authors don’t mind doing what we do!

    Cheers!

    Hi Helga,

Yes, if that show_admin_column in the Types settings for my taxonomy checkbox is not checked, then it still does show in the quick edit screen, but you don’t see it until the quick edit expands. However, you cannot make or save any changes.(Meaning: you can click a new radio button, but when you click save, it just reverts back to the default ‘none selected’).

I will pop you a small token donation when i have the time—i won’t forget. It’s a miracle all these plugins exists at all!

    ??

NOTE: I should add that all my custom taxonomies show in the quick edit – so maybe that’s a Types setting somewhere that would be obvious if i delved into it, and I create all my custom taxonomies with Types.

Arg. I’m getting some of the same issues with Quick Edit and Bulk Edit. I’m using WP 3.81. I’m using the regular method of creating taxonomies (ie without a plugin). Trying to turn on show_admin_column doesn’t work.

I’ll have to look into this later also but would like to help — it’s a great interface plugin I’d love to have for a number of sites, but RBfT without quick and bulk editing will confuse people I design sites for.

Quick edit is still working here, for both regularly-registered taxonomies and Types-generated taxonomies. Until someone can show me how to reproduce the error you are seeing I can’t do anything about it. Check your dev tool’s console for script errors and also try disabling other plugins.

Re: bulk edit. I didn’t even know you could bulk edit the terms. I just checked it out and the radio buttons display fine, but the save doesn’t occur. That is something to perhaps work on, but I must admit that development is currently not very active at the moment.

However, I am totally open to pull requests and code suggestions. Everything is available on github.

Anyone interested in testing the bulk edit feature can check out the dev branch over at Github. Please report any issues on Github… the issues tracking is 100x better over there and it makes my life easier.
