Your website is protected by Cloudflare CDN and wrong settings or some wrong configurations could block the connection to your website and prevent payment.

It sounds like it could be related to your Cloudflare caching system so can you temporarily deactivate Cloudflare and check if the checkout page works as expected?

Hey Mirko, thanks for the suggestions but I did many more tests while waiting for answers as I am in a tight spot here:

– complete new staging site with all plugins deactivated, (also MU-plugins empty) only storefront + woocommerce + woocommerce stripe plugin, no cloudlfare connected, totally new server, nothing else active, same problme, no luck, still get the same message like I am using the wrong credentials.

So i decided to test another stripe plugin (non woocommerce) on the same staging site and with test credentials, it works. However… the same new stripe plugin (non woocommerce) in production with cloudflare disabled either in test or live credentials doesn’t work.

I did truly a lot of testing but overall what is the most important seems the staging that now with the second stripe plugin (non woocommerce) with all the other plugins enabled and the correct theme, with test credentials works. So I am lost…

Any new idea?

Thanks for the additional details.

After researching a bit I found that the error usually occurs when a card is saved in one mode (test or live) on your site, and then the mode changes (from test to live, or vice versa).

The card is still saved in WooCommerce to your account, but it now doesn’t match up to your Stripe account, because it was in the other account (test or live).

You can manually remove the saved cards from your WooCommerce account and check if the issue still occurs.

sadly is not connected to the card as many clients with different cards that have never been used as testing and other cards we use are not working. It is getting very weird. I am restoring now more and more time the same site with different configuration trying to get a clue of what it could be going one.

Are your Stripe logs enabled? You can check under WooCommerce > Settings > Payments > stripe > settings > advanced settings > Log error messages.

If so, please try to process an order again. Navigate to WooCommerce > System Status > Logs (Select Stripe from the list). And paste your logs here in your response.

So, apparently it solved itself, after millions of testing activation and deactivation we got it back and works. Seems stable so… magic sometimes happens.
