We don’t want to highlight every category with a color. Transparent for border and background doesn’t work, because that can override categories with colors. Some categories need to just not have any special styling applied.

But the whole idea of the plugin is to style a specific category. That does include border/background and text.f

Why not just add the color you want to the list?

Yes, a specific category. But the plugin styles all of them, turning text black by default. And what about non-coding users who don’t know how to find their theme’s text color, let alone how to create a hook to add it to your settings? Leaving aside a theme for a moment, what if a user likes TEC’s default color for calendar events and just wants to add different borders to them? Suddenly, all their event links are black. Or gray or white, with no option for leaving it alone. By making “transparent” effectively “no rule”, you have fixed this for border and background, but text color also needs this option.

I just got the github fork working, and I have to say, its amazing, thank you. I run a website for a sports club with multiple grades, so I’ve been able to set each grade to a background colour, and home and away as border colours, so everyone can see at a glance who is playing where. Fantastic feature

@swinggraphics please feel free to fork Category Colors Options. It will give you a head start on adding programmatic options to the Category Colors plugin from within another plugin.

The next release of Category Colors will have this pattern as default where borders and backgrounds may be combined from different categories.

This is released in v4.7.0, but you will need to resave your settings.

This option is now available in Category Colors v5.0.0
