• Help! I have two different sites that I manage and somehow both sites lost their sidebars on the home page…. they show up at the bottom of the page instead. All other pages are okay. I upgraded one site to WP 2.6.1 (https://www.growinginhisgrace.com) but it didnt fix the problem. I have tried numerous themes on both sites and still have the same problem. Both sites were okay before I added my most recent posts. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

  • Please try to delete the most recent post. My guess would be that an element in the post (maybe the video) ist too large for the container.
If you click on one of the links for example https://growinginhisgrace.com/?p=22 your Layout is ok.

So make the video smaller or delete it from your post and I think everything will be ok.

Re-upload copy of your theme specially index.php and style.css of your theme. Clear cache and browser cookies afterwards. Good luck.

did you copy entry from another blog or ms-world, you should copy in html mode and delete all the html tags.

I don’t think it’s a style- or theme issue. It must have to do with the content of one of the more recent posts…
Please tell us how you are doing Johnsma ??

Deleting the most recent post on the first site fixed that problem. I tried to do the same on https://www.growinginhisgrace.org but it didn’t fix it. I cleared cache and tried different themes, but it didn’t help. There must be either 1) something is to wide in my home page posts, or 2) a problem with code that only impacts the home page??? Any other suggestions??? Thanks again for your help!

    Hello Johnsma.
I tried it out by downloading the page and playing with the divs.
    Someting’s wrong.

The Sidebar DIV sits INSIDE the Main Content DIV. That’s why it’s shown after the post content.
Did you change something in the theme? If you did, that might be the mistake.

Try to put the div with the ID Sidebar and the class “secondary” AFTER the DIV that ends with
    </div> <!-- /main content -->

That’s my best bet in this short amount of time. Or you could take the theme from the working page.

    Good luck

Thanks Wearitwell! I am a newbie to WP. Which file do I need to edit? I have looked through most of them and cannot find the line of code you mentioned above. Thanks again for your help!

John, I don’t know which file it is because I don’t see the php files.
It must be index.php or … my guess sidebar.php.
But I just don’t want to believe that the problem lies in your template file. Because usually that template should work fine.

So before playing around with the code you should try to upload the theme from the other site (you haven’t linked that here) where you said it works.

    Welcome!

Anja, I found the problem. One of my text entries was causing the problem. I ended up deleting posts until I found the one that was causing the issue. Thanks for your help.
