I’ve googled this and done my best to work it it out, but to no avail, and so it’s time to ask for help.

I have a Woocommerce site using Storefront as the theme. I have put a couple of product filter widgets in my sidebar.

The sidebar displays on the main ‘shop’ page and subsequent category and product pages, but I can’t get it to show on any new pages I create that I’d like it to display on. I don’t know why it even displays on my ‘Shop’ page because I can’t see any settings specifying that.

I’ve tried all the page templates that are available in the dropdown list when editing a page, but none of them make any difference.

I’m operating off a child theme of Storefront if that makes any difference. I’ve checked the functions.php file and there is nothing there that could affect this.

In short, I just don’t know how to turn the sidebar on and off. Any tips or advice would be appreciated.

    thanks

    Hi there!

    Thanks for reaching out.

Can you please specify if you’re using the default WooCommerce like Filter Products by Attribute or a third-party plugin?

    https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-product-search/widgets/product-filter-attributes/

Widgets like this one usually only appear on pages where products with particular attributes are present.

Let us know which particular widget you’re using and we’ll check if it is possible to use that widget on custom pages, not just shop and category pages.

    Many thanks for your reply.

I am using the following 2 widgets in the sidebar. They are not 3rd party and so I guess they come with either Storefront or WooCommerce.

It is NOT the WooCommerce Product Search premium plugin. I have been contemplating that one, but can’t really see that it gives me much more than I’m getting in the default one I see in my widgets listing that is worth paying money for.

Does this mean that my sidebar might actually by displaying but there are no ‘valid’ widgets to display in it as it is being used on a standard page (ie not product or category related)?

I am wanting to put up a welcome home page but would like visitors to quickly and easily be able to select products to view by category and/or colour.

Product Categories: Product Categories (with following checkboxes)
    – Show as dropdown
    – Show product counts
    – Show hierarchy
    – Only show children of the current category
    – Hide empty categories

Filter Products by Attribute: Select by Colour (with following dropdowns)
    – Attribute type
    – Display type
    – Query Type

Oh, indeed, I used the wrong documentation link. This is the right one:

    https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-widgets/#section-1

The default widgets will only appear on WooCommerce pages such as shop/category ones in case there are products with these particular attributes.

As a workaround, you could either find an additional plugin capable of showing certain filters on regular pages or use some of these blocks:

    I hope this helps!

Ok, thank you for that. At least I can now look for alternative solutions rather than trying to work out why what I currently have is not working.

    Many thanks.
