• I’m having the same problem that so many before me have had… XML error: Reserved XML Name at line 2, column 38, AKA the blank line problem.

    I’ve gone through all my php files and can’t find any blank lines before or after php commands.

    I’ve used the rss-fix plugin. It tells me…

    No found blank lines from your wordpress php files, now your feed is ok!

    … but clearly that is incorrect. Or at least maybe it’s true, but there is some other problem.

    Here is my blog: https://www.rockandrollwritein.com Guess I’m at my wits end. I need the RSS capability, but no idea what else to try. Is there a manual way to set this up?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

    resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    Thanks esmi! I have tried #1 and #2, but haven’t tried resetting the plugins folder. I will report back…

    I tried #3 as well. There are no active plugins and I’m still getting this error message:

    Invalid xml declaration.
    Line: 2 Character: 3

    <?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”UTF-8″?>
