Instead members are sent to “join” page

After I updated the s2member plugin the other day, it came to my attention this morning that members are being sent to “join”. They can manually click the members only pages from the menu and view and download like could before but I am stumped at why there isn’t any redirection.

I went into the dashboard, s2member settings, login/welcome page settings and confirmed that the members-area page was still selected as the landing page and it was. Didn’t work so I went to the entry below that (Or, a Special Redirection URL?) and typed in the full url for the members page. Still doesn’t work.

    Any ideas?

  • Something is redirecting your members to your “join” page. Try deactivating all other plugins and change your theme to 2015. Does the Welcome page (I assume that’s what you’re talking about, rather than members area page, which is just your own name for a page) work then?

deactivated all plug ins except s2m and went to 2015 theme and problem still exists.

and yes my login/welcome page is in my own words “members area”

another words, they log in at a s2M login wigit located in a side bar on the home page and once logged in… they used to be directed to https://………………/members-area/ but now…. members end up at a join page. Like when a non member clicks a link or page or whatever and s2member sees that they aren’t a member… so they are redirected to the join page.

that is what happens to my members since the update. BUT the members still have access to the content!

Have you checked to see if the the Membership Options Page setting in s2Member is still active?

??? well, in the s2M login-welcome page field, the members-area page (where I want members to be directed to after successful login) is selected and has been saved. It has been this way every since I have had S2M.

If you are referring to the actual login-welcome page (members area) itself, yes it is:

    s2Member?
    This Page is your:
    Login Welcome Page
    (automatically guarded by s2Member)

    @kelly541,

I asked because (a) a couple of other users claimed their MOP had been reset after the latest update to s2Member, and (b) your desired redirect isn’t working.

Do you have MOP Vars enabled in the MOP section? If not, could you try enabling them, and then attempt to access a real page while you are logged out? (It’s easiest to just use a different browser; that way you can remain logged in with your current browser.)

Then see what happens, and what appears in the address bar.

Yes, MOP Vars has been and still is enabled

I had a thought that perhaps my pay pal settings on the actual pay pal website might have been messed up and confirmed that the redirect page was still selected as the correct page, it was.

Then I started thinking about the s2m log on wigit and checked that. I am given 3 choices on that wigit, 1) original page 2) home page 3) login-welcome page. I selected all three at different times and tested. All three attempts I was sent to “join”

    Hmmmmmmm IDK

What are the issues moving website from https:// to https:// ??? Its possible I missed something there. The reason I mention this is I attempted to run a s2memberserverscan.php and it wouldn’t run. I attempted to enable logging and then view logs and none were available.

What are the issues moving website from https:// to https:// ???

Whoa!! Why didn’t you mention that before?!

That’s a big cause of issues. You can’t just move a live site to https. You need to test it really thoroughly first, and sorting out every issue could take a long time.

You should read up on what’s involved before attempting it.

So try changing it back to http.

Well, obviously we did test it, the best we could anyways. I mean it is after all wordpress! Hunt and peck, google this and google that. Read someone’s rendition of what works and attempt it on your site. Sometimes that works, most of the time it doesn’t apply to you. Try to ask on the forums and well… LOL

I mentioned at the beginning of all of this that everything worked fine until that latest update of the plugin. However, as nobody seems to know… I start digging in the “wordpress dig” thinking and what ifing everything. So therefore… It would be nice to see someone else’s checklist for a move such as that IE; http: to https though. But… well… obviously… it freaked you out to no end so you know what???

I’ll figure it out myself! Thanks for your suggestions! Have a great day!

Did it freak me out that you had changed from http to https? No.

Did it freak me out that you asked for help, yet failed to mention you had changed from http to https? You bet!

It always amazes me how some people want help from a volunteer community on these forums, yet fail to explain what they’ve done on their site.

No need to be all amazed! LOL

Just covering all bases as you didn’t seem to be able to help with your suggestions. I was out of options as well. FYI, S2member wasn’t able to fix it either and gave up.

I read somewhere that another person fixed a particular problem with their website after a plug in update (not s2member) by un-installing the most recent update. I wouldn’t know how to delete just the most recent update but when it comes to s2member, I don’t think I would want to do that anyways.

I think you have to start by isolating the cause before you try to find a solution. I’d try changing back to https:// and see if the issue goes away.

If it does go away, then the problem is almost certainly not s2member at all (which would explain why Pro supoort could not help) but something about the way you have set up your site which causes a problem when you change to using SSL. (My guess then would be that there’s a problem with your Login Welcome page.)

I went to dashboard/s2member/general options/login welcome page and selected “No” (Always Redirect non-Administrative Users (after login) using HTTP)

    The website works fine now

OK, so you had never set up the login redirection! That’s a good reminder to always check the basics.
