no preview since upgrade to WordPress 5.8

We checked on the link you provided and it is showing the preview for us correctly. If you clear your cache (server, plugin/theme, browser, or CDN such as Cloudflare) does this resolve the issue? If you are not sure how to clear your server cache you should speak with your host provider. sadly, I cannot find any cache to empty. I tried different browsers on different devices, no preview image.
There is no cache in wordpress I could find and no server cache to empty, according to my host provider.

We checked on the new link you provided and this also displays the preview for us in the debugger as expected (see image here).

Regarding the warning of ‘The following required properties are missing: fb:app_id’, please note that the fb:app_id meta tag is not required. In fact, it doesn’t actually hasn’t done anything for some time, which is why we removed support for it as of Yoast SEO version 15.5. You can also find more information on this in the following help article: https://yoast.com/help/fb-app-id-warnings/

If the meta tag is not required, then why is Facebook suddenly looking for it ever since the 5.8 update?
And why does it sometimes look for it and sometimes not?

The Facebook Sharing Debugger Tool has been showing that fb:app_id meta tag long before the WP 5.8 update, but please rest assured, that this isn’t affecting the open graph tags whatsoever, in generating the social preview for the title, image, and description.

We can confirm that the latest URL you shared (https://hpgstation.de/2021/07/25/coververgleich-service-for-the-dead-den-toten-dienen/) is showing the preview when running on Facebook’s Sharing Debugger Tool, so we would expect that the social preview would work as expected.

If you are having any issues with any other posts or pages on your website, please ensure that the correct open graph tags are being generated, and scrape it a couple of times on Facebook’s sharing debugger tool – https://yoast.com/help/facebook-sharing-updated-details/

no social preview and the debugger is showing the same error.
Yes, it seems like this problem sorts itself out over time, but waiting an hour or however long after posting before putting something up on Facebook isn’t really an option.
It is worth pointing out that the image URL does show up in the raw tags under og:image, but the image is still not there.
And since I am not the only one reporting it here, it is clearly not a problem just happening to me.

And, just when I post this, the image is now showing up.
This is really getting annoying.

When you publish a new post, you can view the page source of that published post, and if the open graph tags such as og:url, og:image, og:title, and og:description are showing, you can be sure that the output from the Yoast SEO plugin are working as expected.

You can then run it through Facebook’s Sharing Debugger Tool and then view what the error message is. It might be something specific to your setup that Facebook’s crawler isn’t able to show the preview right away, and you’ll need to scrape it a couple of times before it shows up.

We’d need to investigate this further, but we are unable to do so over these public forums. You might want to consider Yoast SEO Premium in order to access the premium plugin, as well as receive personal premium email support from our team.
