Hi, I have the Premium Version and tried to send a support question twice now through your site and no response. Figured I’ll try here… Please I need to resolve this ASAP.

I have private videos on Vimeo that I want to show for my members. On the category page and the page I have listed all, the private videos do not have autogenerated thumbnails but the test videos that are public, do.. screenshot: https://prnt.sc/uq0c4d

When you click on the video and go the video page, the thumb is there. screenshot: https://prnt.sc/uq0dgj
I need to figure this out soon as it’s been 2 weeks since I’ve been sending you support requests.

My sincere apologies. We received your support requests and replied them immediately. When we find you are asking the same question again, we understood that you’re not receiving emails from our official email address. So, we sent our reply again from a different email address. It shows your email server completely blocks our IP address.

Here is our original reply and I’m adding it again here,

“Yes, this is related to your Vimeo privacy settings. We use Vimeo’s OEmbed API to get the video thumbnails. Kindly refer to the solution suggested here https://stackoverflow.com/questions/52605700/get-vimeo-thumbnails-for-private-videos?answertab=votes#tab-top

After adjusting your Vimeo privacy settings, simply edit open the video from our plugin back-end and resave the form. This should get the thumbnail and store it to your database.

    Hope this solved your issue!”

    Adding to my last reply,

The second screenshot belongs to our video player where the first frame of the actual video shows. So, it’s not the the thumbnail image.

The solution is to adjust your viewing privacy settings to one of the following,

    – Only people with the private link (must use the complete video url)
    – Hide this video from vimeo.com

Thanks for getting back to me. I was starting to wonder LOL

I tried both these settings on the Vimeo end and I am still not getting the thumbnail

Is there anything else it could be?

Kindly try adding the complete video URL from Vimeo that looks like below,

    https://vimeo.com/457117842/{some_id}

Also, please open the following URL in a browser,
    https://vimeo.com/api/oembed.json?url=https://vimeo.com/457117842/

You should get a JSON response from the Vimeo for your test Video. Generally, the JSON response would also include the image URL for your video. But, this doesn’t work due to your video privacy settings. So, you simply need to adjust your Vimeo privacy settings. Unfortunately, I don’t have a Vimeo PRO account to test with the same combination you’re using in your Vimeo account.

    Alternate solution:

You can simply upload an “Image” for your video using the “Image” field in the Video form (WordPress Admin Dashboard => Video Gallery => All Videos).

Unfortunately, that url did not produce a thumbnail either and alternative solution is not the best in this case because this is meant for my client to uploade and add these and they are not able to create an image for each video. Not technical enough.

Can I possibly send you the Vimeo and WordPress logins so you can test it? What email would I use for you? and your IP so I can whitelist both.

Yes, that would be better. Actually, we are getting your emails. But, you’re not receiving our replies. So, please send the details to the same email address using which you contacted us before. Also, please specify an alternate email address in your message to which we can CC our replies.

Thanks for the details and it helped us to identify the Vimeo privacy setting that restricts the image URLs from their OEmbed response.

I see you have selected “Specific domains” in the “Where can this be embedded?” privacy setting. This should be “Anywhere” to get the thumbnails.

I understand you want to restrict the videos only to your websites. So, shall I suggest a trick here?

    1. Change the “Where can this be embedded?” setting to “Anywhere” temporarily when you add a Vimeo video in our WordPress plugin dashboard. So, the plugin can get the thumbnail URL for your video.

    2. Then, change the “Where can this be embedded?” setting back to “Specific domains” in your Vimeo dashboard.

I agree this is an UGLY solution. But, sorry there is no other solution at the moment.

    Hope this helped you!
