When I set up the home page to show my most recent posts, it grabs the first fifty words of the post as a preview, ignoring the fact that I specified a “post excerpt” when I created the content.

I have already gone to my WordPress.com->Settings-Reader configuration and set “For each post in a feed, include:” to “Excerpt.” I have verified that the excerpts are selected correctly for other themes, but not for this one.

I know that this is an older theme, but is there any place that I can request support for post excerpts to be added to it? I would hope that is a fairly simple modification to make.

    Hi there,

The setting you are referring to is a general WordPress setting that does not affect your theme settings, but instead controls how much content is shown in your site’s RSS feed.

The Textbook theme does not have a setting to show custom excerpts and by design the 50 character auto-excerpt is shown as the default.

It is possible to edit the theme’s source PHP files to change this behavior, but we are not able to provide help in this area. Instead we recommmend hiring a professional to make that change for your specific site.

Thank you, that makes sense with what I’m seeing. Unfortunately I am on wordpress.com, not www.remarpro.com, so editing the source PHP files isn’t available to me. I think I’ll just have to settle with the auto-excerpt then.
