    Hi,

I have installed Postman (and Postman Gmail API Extension), configured correctly I believe, but it is not connecting with gmail.

    Connection test gives the results:
? ?? Port 443 can be used to send email with the SendGrid API.
? ?? Port 587 can be used for SMTP to smtp.gmail.com.
? No outbound route between this site and the Internet on Port 25.

I contacted my service provider – HTV Hosting – and they say that it will not be possible to use google’s mail services without configuring their MX records, and will have to create new mailboxes with the Google mail services.

Is this correct, or a load of tosh?

    Please advise.

    Thanks,

    A.

You can uninstall Postman Gmail API Extension, it’s no longer needed.

This is incorrect if you are trying to use a Gmail account, and correct if you are trying to use a non-Gmail account. Would you post the results of the Diagnostic Test and I’ll pinpoint what is wrong.

Yes, your host is right. scatterlingsofafrica.net is not a Google account, so you can’t use the Gmail server to send its mail. Google is not an “open relay”.

    scatterlingsofafrica.net. 299	IN	MX	10 mx2.htvhosting.com.
    scatterlingsofafrica.net. 299	IN	MX	10 mx1.htvhosting.com.
    ;scatterlingsofafrica.net.	IN	TXT

Contact your host and ask them what your SMTP server settings are; and let me know too so I can program it into Postman.

BTW, your domain is missing an SPF record and this means some services, like Gmail, may reject your email. You should ask your host to create an SPF record.

Here are the requested SMTP details:

    Outgoing: SMTP Mail Server: mail.htvhosting.com
    Authentication : Yes
    Secure connection options : None/Yes(SSL)

    Port numbers:
    SMTP: 25 or 2525/SSL: 465

They say if I want an SPF record to be added for a domain, I can just provide them with the desired record and we will add it…but where do I get it?

Ok, give the Postman Setup Wizard that outgoing mail server (mail.htvhosting.com) and it will take care of the rest.

Seriously? You’re supposed to get it from them. They run your mail server, right? Not too bright.

This should work – but I’m guessing:

    "v=spf1 +a +mx ~all"

I’m not sure what happened. Cloudflare said:

https://www.scatterlingsofafrica.net | 520: Web server is returning an unknown error

There is an issue between CloudFlare’s cache and your origin web server. CloudFlare monitors for these errors and automatically investigates the cause. To help support the investigation, you can pull the corresponding error log from your web server and submit it our support team. Please include the Ray ID (which is at the bottom of this error page).

    CloudFlare Ray ID: 241c8fce73182963

Cloudflare has a FAQ on this error.

But this may only affect Postman’s capability to send a test email. See if some other part of your system can send mail now, like a Contact Form.

    Yeah, not working.

Had an issue earlier which is what lead to searching out an alternative way of sending email. I am on a shared hosting, and they told me that there are more than 12100 messages sent from the hosting account via phpmail script for the last 24 hours which has exceeded its outgoing mail rate limits, and was the reason I was not able to send mails. Each shared hosting account has an outgoing mail rate limit of 150 mails per 60 minutes and 1500 mails per 24 hours.

I had to wait for it to reset, and (as you may have guessed) I am a newbie with all this, trying to learn, but need to be able to send mails out.

Jason, thanks for all the help.

    Yeah, not working.

What does Postman’s email log say for the regular emails?

they told me that there are more than 12100

Are you really sending that many messages? Sounds like the site is compromised and is sending Spam. Since you have to authenticate with the mail server, they should know exactly how much everyone is sending.

    Sorry I couldn’t help more.

Thanks for all the help you have given.

And yip, there was spam, but was coming from the sites I share hosting with ??

You have been an incredible help.
