• So I’ve had issues with wordpress with my last two hosts concerning editing themes and changing permalink structure.

First, the theme issue. There is no button for updating my changes to a theme. I have that message about it being writable. The thing is, both myself and my host has set the permissions to both 777 and 775. Nothing changed. Is this an issue with my host or wordpress because awhile ago I never had this problem. One click install and I was done but that was a couple builds ago.

Second is with htaccess and permalinks. When I try to change the structure, I get the message about htaccess needing to be writable, and it spits out some code. I dont have a clue about this but my host said they put that code into htaccess. But nothing has changed.

  • On a file 666 should be enough to edit it in the theme editor. However, I always advise NOT to use it: you, guys, will always forget to change back the permissions and in the morning when your blog will be hacked you’ll come here and ask for help… Remember, I told you now ??

Well, if the host is not able to handle a simple .htaccess issue – I’d look for a real one.

Who IS your host? Probably a good first question…. and truthfully, the theme editor gives you nothing you can’t get from coffeecup html editor – use it offline, then upload; its easier and safer. https://www.coffeecup.com/ – there’s a free one….
