Why just tags, and not also categories? I don’t want to change all my categories to tags just to see if this thing works or not.

UPDATE 16 AUG 2014 Version 2.2.3: I have reduced this to one star. Does not work (dashboard) in Firefox. Has ostensibly adds categories, but in fact displays nothing but the title.

You’re giving the plugin 3 stars because it doesn’t support categories? Wouldn’t the plugin be named “3D Tag and Category Cloud” if the author wanted to support that…?

Other plugins I looked at have the option to list tags or categories, so I am guessing it is not a complicated issue for the author to address, and no, the other plugins did not have the word “category” in their titles. So no, there is no presumption that the author would have included the word “category” in its title.

So yes, congratulations on your astute observation. I am giving it 3 stars based on an this needless limitation.

Yes, the authors of the ‘other plugins’ decided to offer an extra feature to those downloading their work. Also, there’s a competition amongst WP plugin developers – including extras might be strategy.

All these doesn’t change the fact that you’re dishonest and malicious when giving 3 stars to a plugin because it doesn’t offer you features it never claimed to include.

    Jan’s observation is really astute.
    And you are really petty-minded.

Yes, I am dishonest and malicious and petty. And warning others to avoid this plugin if they want functionality. So let’s keep the discussion lively, so that more and more potential users are aware of its limitations! Thanks for keeping the fire stoked!

You’re welcome. I’m happy to see that we agree.
Except that one point about functionality of course.

( Limitations? Man, read the widget title, description and feature list, THEN talk about limitations and missing features. )

If you started blogging somewhat casually, you might have used categories instead of tags, because they are more prominent when creating posts. Now, after downloading this plugin, you can download ANOTHER plugin (and why use one WordPress plugin when you can have two?) and convert categories to tags, then edit your widgets in case you had them set up to display categories, all because this plugin author was too lazy or unimaginative to offer a “taxonomy” dropdown menu.

So I didn’t read the description, or didn’t realize the distinction between tags and categories (more likely). Does not change one iota the fact that this plugin is limited. And needlessly so, in my opinion.

And Jan, y’know, the author could also have called this “3D Tag Cloud That Does Not Support The Other WordPress Taxonomy Because I Didn’t Feel Like It.” There are endless possibilities once you start arguing for limitations.

No, not really. The developer volunteering his free time to develop a free plugin which “allows you to display your site’s tags using jquery that rotates the tags in 3D” (per the plugin’s description) is the only possibility that matters here, so let’s please keep this civil.

The developer is offering a free plugin titled “3D Tag Cloud” which displays a 3D cloud of tags, probably because that’s all the developer wanted, and he probably figured he would share his work with everyone else.
