I have one site that does not send email notifications when a comment is made.

In all the previous posts I’ve seen about this problem the host mostly gets blamed, but in this case it’s only one website out of five with the same host. All the others send notifications fine.

Also, I have the Subscribe To Comments Reloaded plugin installed (on this and 2 other sites) and that does successfully send emails.

I have a valid email address in Settings->General that’s unique and at the same domain as the site.

The “E-mail me whenever Anyone posts a comment” box is checked. I’ve tried unchecking, saving and re-checking it.

    My questions:

1/ Is there a log somewhere I can look at that will tell me what happens at the point a comment is made? Maybe there is an error message that will help me trace this, or maybe it’s not going to the email address I’m expecting.

2/ What is the process WordPress goes though to choose which email address(es) a notification should be sent to when a comment is made. I really feel my lack of understanding abut this is what’s stopping me from being able to track down the cause of this problem.

it may be that the email you used for receiving notifications, suddenly started blocking emails that were sent using forms. Have you tried a different email?

    Thanks for your reply, Tara.

I haven’t tried a different email address, as emails from the Subscribe To Comments plugin get through, but I will, just in case there is something weird going on there.

    Hello @mike,

Our plugin uses the WordPress wp_mail() function to send the emails. This function uses the mail inside your host, so if messages are going through may be it is a email issue.

To make sure it is an issue with your email account try to use a public email address like gmail on Settings->General->E-mail Address . Nevertheless I think there is something more that is not right, first try this steps and then let me know.

    Regards.!!

    Thanks for the reply Reedyseth.

I changed the user email address to a different one for testing and it worked. I then changed it back to the original address and it continued to work.

That was several days ago and it continues to work so I guess I’ll put it down to gremlins.

So I have no idea what the actual problem was.
