    Hi!
    After the plugin worked fine a few months now it seems the plugin does nothing. It should make a backup today 2am but there is no file. I have started the script manually without a result but also without any error message the the wordpress backend, in server logs or anywhere else.
    What can I do
    – to find the problem
    – to fix it
    ?
    I have checked any write rights in the folders. 755.

    Regards
    Mike

  • Hi, I’m having the same issue! When I run a backup (automatic or manual) it does not appear in “No backups completed” nor does it create a file! :O

    Thanks

    The same here, tried all those steps, but still after some seconds the wheel stop spinning and still no backups:

    • can you run a database-only backup?
    • how about a files-only backup? (create a new schedule if you don’t want to edit a current one)
    • If not, try to exclude your /wp-content/uploads folder, then run a manual backup. Does this work? If so, we know the size of your backup is probably hanging up your server.
    • If you can, try disabling all other plugins, and switch to a default theme if possible as plugin conflicts can occur. Does that help?

    Thank you @weloveyou – that initial troubleshooting checklist is definitely where to start! We’re a couple weeks out from our newest release, and having had an update for a while otherwise. So it’s likely going through the regular troubleshooting will show us some kind of limit you guys are running into … and we have ways around some of those.

    Please report back with what you find and I’ll be happy to help you along from there! The first step is to check what you can and cannot do from the checklist above!

    Same problem here – i tried to disable plugins and looks like Wordfence Security somehow blocks backup process… Its kinda strange cause i have a different website with almost same plugins and no problems! MAnual database-only and files-only backup are also not working.

    Did WordFence block it even with scanning turned off @alexlouis? I ask because the WordFence scanning and the backup process for our plugin are both high users of memory and CPU. Sometimes it’s the scanning continuously that is enough to run a user over their limit. Beyond that, WordFence themselves have a great number of options built into the more advanced settings that will allow you to tailer the plugin’s use of memory and how long scanning will last each time, plus a few other things – check into that and see if you can fine-tune it further so you can keep both plugins running.

    Those limits can cause issues on some sites, depending on the plugins installed and the exact settings configured. Try playing with the WordFence settings to see if you can find some success with that.

    Additionally some plugins will also impact additional settings because they impact Ajax, the use of the Heartbeat API or other seemingly innocuous things.

    See what you find out and report back if you want additional troubleshooting feedback here!

    Thanks!

    Looks like if i disable Rate Limiting and Advanced Blocking (which disables ALL blocking/throttling functions including firewall) backups working ?? but this is almost the same as disabling plugin.
    Scheduled scanning is working once a month

    Hm @alexlouis – that seems like more than I had to disable when I was playing with WordFence. What’s your underlying php memory_limit and max_execution_time limits? (you can find them in the php.ini though WordFence has a server info section as well)

    Kat

    max_execution_time = 600
    memory_limit = 268435456

    I’m going to play with WordFence locally on my own test site to see if I can replicate this. If you can think of any further info to add to this let me know – I was sure I didn’t have to go quite that far when I set up my WordFence … but I might be forgetting a setting … I’ll be back!

    I couldn’t replicate this on my site despite repeated attempts to do so. I think it must be a difference in server setup, as none of the same options as you noted above completely stopped my backups from running. But it would have bearing on any underlying memory limit, CPU usage limit, or even process limits, etc. since the additional site scanning would tax some shared hosts.

    I’m setting this one to resolved for now but please don’t hesitate to comment back here or start a new topic if you want to do additional troubleshooting.

    Thanks,
    Kat
