• Hi all.

I am having some trouble with some client sites using multisite.

I have updated two of them to WP 3.2.1, the others are still on older versions, but I have the same problem with all of them.

I haven’t used multisite before so I’m not really familiar with the network admin functions.

I cannot get to the network admin dashboard, or use any network admin functions. I have tried using the drop down menu on the top right, going directly to the URL, and clicking links such as ‘update network’ or within the templates section.

When I go to wp-admin/network/ I get “Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.”

I’ve tried clearing the cache and played with the cookie settings with no luck. I’ve tried multiple browsers, and the page just times out. I have the same issue with all of the client’s sites with multisite installed, although not with a test site on my own server which I have enabled multisite on.

Unfortunately I’m not sure how this problem has come about as it has been like this since I took the sites on, and the previous developer is not available.

I would really appreciate any help.

EDIT: I have deactivated all plugins…

  • Given that the symptoms suggest a redirection issue, perhaps a first step is to look closely at anything that might be causing faulty redirection to take place.

The Apache redirect directive can be used in the context of server config, virtual host, directory and .htaccess. Perhaps look in these places for any possible causes?

Are the redirect rules in the .htaccess files exactly the same on the problem sites as on your working test site?
