No mail sent from localhost

  • Hello, I m new in wordpress. I cant send ANY (registration,contact me etc)mail from my localhost(my testing server). But if I upload the site in my remote site (actual hosting), it works – all mails are sent well. But when I m in my local PC (loalhost), no mail is sent, though no error is shown rather it shows mail sent confirmation but mail is not sent.

    Do you have a mail server setup on your local PC?

    no…is it necessary for wp to work from localhost ? if so, how n what to do ?

    If you’re just using your local server for testing & development, don’t worry about mail.

    @tanvirtonu : mail server wont be configured in localhost. Mail server, which is used to send mails, will be available only in live or production servers.

    Generally people use localhost to testing & development. If it works fine in localhost they will upload the same to production.

    You can or have to authorize connection with smtp server like Gmail account or any other mailing service to use it from localhost a specially if you are using it with IIS

    What if I install a local smtp server ? there are many out there, will it work then ? I just want to make sure that the plugins (that send mails) I am using actually send mails correctly.

    How to do that? Is there any plugin to configure wp for smtp and then send mails from localhost.

    You can, but the point folks are making is that if it’s just YOU testing, you don’t have to have email ?? It’s a hassle to setup, and most of us don’t bother.
