No luck with manual HTML links

I’ve tried every combination of settings to trigger a box on a manual link, but it doesn’t seem to be working.

It could also be that the settings confused me. What is the difference between “load this box if” and “auto show box”? Does the first one refer to the plugin assets?

I’ve created a temporary copy of my site with three different pages linking to three different boxes. The corresponding settings are included as a screenshot on each page:

Only if URL

Everywhere

Only if URL and Everywhere

The setting that varies is the “load this box if” one. I’ve stuck with “auto show box” = never, because I only ever want the box to trigger on a link.

Oddly, when making the test pages, occasionally the trigger worked one time only after the page was loaded for the very first time. As you can see, any setting combination that includes “everywhere” loads the box even though “auto show box” is never.
