• This used to work though on an older site, though when I tried to install it on a new site it broke the backend, resulting in a Internal Server Error 500.

    The problem was eventually resolved by over-writing the .htaccess file.

    # BEGIN WordPress
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
    </IfModule>
    # END WordPress
