Hi, when switching we no longer see a link to switch back? Seems to have happened since upgrading to WP v6.2. Any help appreciated.

Thanks for the report. Does the problem still happen with all your other plugins deactivated?

@dgilfillan Do the “switch back” options turn up in your profile options or in the Dashboard (screenshot)

In screenshot testing switching from Admin to Editor and back on WordPress 6.2.

Hi, for me it seems to be related to our use of Admin Menu Editor Pro. (This plugin incudes an Toolbar Editor too.) Essentially for Authors and Editors we turn off admin notices, so when switching to users with these roles, the “switch back” option does not appear! (ie the notice next to the green profile icon in your screenshot)

Unfortunately, neither does the option appear in the profile drop down menu you show in your screenshot. I have been trying to find a way to provide permissions that will do this, but no luck so far as it seems to be driven by the permissions of the user switch to, rather than the permissions of the initialy (admin) user.

Hmm. To me, that sound like that the user role you are switching to, lacks a capability that is required for the switch link to be shown.

I sometimes add additional capabilities to my users, like viewing form entries, viewing statistics, adding a menu item using the User Role Editor plugin.

What if you, say, promote a user to Editor, see if user switching works, and if so, compares the capabilities of the Editor and the non-functional role, to see which capability is missing? It can sometimes be like searching for a needle in a haystack, but it’s generally worth the trouble – and you only have to do it once.

If you find the right capability, you can either add that to the existing role, an existing user, or add a new role (my preferred) and add that role to the user as an additional role (eg Editor, Forms Viewer or Contributor, User Switcher).

    Please share your findings ??
